Wow thanks, I really appreciate the offer! I think I'm gonna stick to getting accustomed to my first DE before I start trying different ones, though
Welcome! This place is great. I've learned so much in such a short time..................................I hope I can remember all of it.
Newbie from Arizona as well (Tucson area) From my limited experience (only 3 shaves with a DE so far) I find it a lot smoother. I'll admit my first shave I was a bit intimidated thinking I would slice my self open but after a few passes it was all confidence and smooth sailing. I think I can cut myself easier with a mach 3. fwiw the razor I have is an Edwin Jagger DE86
I feel a bit intimidated, but after being encouraged on this board by people such as yourself I know I must try it! It really surprises me to hear people say that mach3 can be worse for cuts, but I guess I have to see for myself. I believe it will be a lot better, it's just difficult to imagine before actually trying it. Thanks for the support
Welcome to the Den Kin. I'm from AZ also. As Aaron said, let us know when you get your gear. If you need any DE blade samples let me know. Another option for a razor might be an injector. We'll see how it goes with what you get. Keep us posted, Alan
I was actually going to get this, http://www.leesrazors.com/products/Ultimate-Beginner's-Double-Edge-Setup.html but I am going to order a few samples of the GFT creams to get an idea of what fragrance I'd like for the soap What do you guys think? Is it a good deal? I was planning on getting the HD anyway
I'm a little late, but Kin, I wouldn't buy a set, try some samples of GFT first, if you must have Trumpers, otherwise I like ToBS cream better for the money. I would get one of the razors mentioned, or if you have to have the HD, pick it up and a decent starter brush, the VDH Luxury set comes with a stand, mug, brush and soap for $28. Trust me if you get into wet shaving, your tastes are going to be completely different down the road, I can almost guarantee it no point in blowing a lot of cash now.
Hi, welcome to the den. I have a slight tremer, have had it since middle school. I've been using a D/E for a few weeks now without any issue. If you are worried about cost, I have found several D/E's at the antique store for around $10.00 and have ordered some from ebay for about the same. I'm even about to try a straight when I get my strop. IMHO,I'd say start small and see how you do. Let us know if you decide to go for it. There are some great people here with even better insights and advice.
Guys, thanks again for the advice. I have already ordered some samples of creams (TOBS and GFT) and the blade sampler pack from the shave den store. I got a perfect shave mug from goodwill today for a dollar. I'm also buying a tech off ebay. Now I''m finding that the brush is the most difficult thing to chose. I'd like to buy a brush that lasts many years and does well with both creams and soaps. Although I don't have experience, I feel like I really want to stay away from a floppy brush; I prefer something that's dense and maybe even a bit pudgy. Any suggestions? :thanks
Well Kin, if you don't want to try the VDH luxury set, I would recommend you take a trip down to Carefree and visit Tony at Penworks/TGN. Penworks Tell him or his daughter Vanessa I sent you and they will take care of you, I have yet to go down there and not spend money I lost count but I think I bought 7 brushes/knots.... lol There is everything from Omega boars, to his own custom brushes to Simpsons....
