Yeah it is! That's the reason I bought it too lol! Cool! Still use it much? Wow, all I can say it wow. So are you a collector, or are you a barber (or both)? Either way that is amazing! Nice job!
No not a collector anymore, I used to buy barber shop stuff on ebay but like razors the prices have gone out of sight , I've actually had fun selling the stuff back on ebay at a loss of course. I am not a barber my interest in the old time barber shop just grew from the shaving hobby there seemed a overlap and natural connection between the two.
WOW! That is an awesome setup.:shocked031 You have done an absolutely fantastic job with your shave den. Can't wait to show SWMBO when she gets home. Been thinking about redoing my office and trying to find a good to balance barbershop and Georgia Bulldawgs.
LOL. I just assembled the junk I like and nothing is rare, its ebay, craigslist, Ikea, Walmart, Barber Supply.
That is a great idea, even the Bulldog team colors and barber shop colors will go together. I would make one suggestion before you start. That is you get the book Barber Shop , History and Antiques by Christian R. Jones, its about $40. It really is the bible of barber shop collectibles and the only resource for barber shop stuff needed. Jones's commentary and the photos make it a wonderful book to use. There is nothing in the book that hasn't showed up on ebay or even on Craigslist. Online auctions through Proxibid are also a source for barber shop stuff of high quality.
Just got to get in on the band wagon and say how amazing all that looks Hanzo! The Sterilizer stuff and the bottles for AS are great, but it's the chair that I'm most jealous of!
Thanks. I don't think barber chairs are that hard to come by, Craigslist seems to be a good source. To keep an eye out on there you are bound to find one. A couple of years back I saw a chair on Craigslist identical to mine with headrest and in good condition, except for a minor problem, for $250. Sometimes people who decorate their houses with them just want to get rid of them as they change decors so a bargain can be had, others times they look like they just sit in peoples garage until someone decides to sell it . Even an ad on Craigslist might turn up something. One guy in my area advertises for barber poles and he buys them for refurbishing. With chairs the hardest part is the metal. The chairs before 1940 were in nickel or brass sometimes, after that time chrome. On old chairs rust and damaged metal can be a problem so getting a chair with good metal is a bit of a challenge, to replate a chair's metal can be a $1200 project. Parts for damaged chairs are no problem because ebay has all the parts or even a chair to pick up in your area if the price is reasonable. Even though the chairs weigh 300 lbs,one thing is they quickly and completely disassemble. I didn't realize that. I took a $11 Walmart wrench and generic DW40 and took mine all apart for cleaning and fixing.
Hanzo, I have to tell you how much I love your shave den. It's obvious that so much thought and care went into that. It's a small space with so much stuff in it, yet it doesn't look cluttered at all. Very classy and very well done. It's cool to see someone with a passion who isn't afraid to indulge in it. I keep finding myself looking at those pics again and again. I'm inspired. :signs107
Big thanks Art. You know its true even though everything is inexpensive stuff ,quite a bit of time went into putting it in, shifting stuff around . I did develop a problem with too much stuff in that I was having to move stuff to get to my shaving gear so I did do a reduction to make it more open and less claustrophobic. True too that the shaving hobby has provided much enjoyment , I always say its harmless fun and that we are lucky to find a lot of fun in little things most people are overlooking.
Nobody wants to post pictures anymore! Lol, I don't think anyone wants to post pictures of their shave dens anymore after Hanzo's display! :happy102 Don't be afraid! Let's see what you have setup!
A year and a half ago. There's too much stuff now to put in a single photograph. However, I did find the picture below, taken on January 3rd, 2010, so almost 18 months ago. I thought I had way too much stuff then. What did I know?
