I did shave with it tonight. It was a bit more aggressive than I expected, but it was also a great shave! I am going to take Dales advice and use it for a couple of weeks so I can use a few other blades with it. I think I feel a new OC AD coming on or is it just an OC D :happy102 I will be trying to find an OLD Type so that I can compare it to the NEW. How do I go about dating this razor, it really does not say anything on it.
I was going to suggest either a Schick Injector or An OC...I've been thinking alot about maybe picking up a Merkur 14c...But hey that rascal of yours sure did clean up nice...Quite the looker.
Bill If your Tech has a hollow handle you can fill it with solder to make it hefy i did it on the franken razors the weight is very nice. Or send it to me and i will put the whammy on it for you. B
My tech has the black plastic handle so I just have to live with it - I use it whenever I try new blades so I always have a known way to compare the blade to others. It works out great that way. I would like to get a new handle for it just to switch back and forth with it, it could be fun. I do have a slim I am thinking of sending you, I am just not sure how I would like it finished - I might let you surprise me.
Great looker there Bill! happy088 By the way, I noticed the stein. Did you spend any time in Germany? I was stationed at Rhein Main AB from 83-86. We shared the runway with Frankfurt International Air Port.
There were made from 1929 to 1941. Unless it was a deluxe model they didn't use serial or date codes during that time frame. There is a way to estimate a tighter year range based on how the patent numbers are shown; however, I don't recall what that is at the moment.
Your razor and blade mix are very similar to mine. I added an EJ 86 (black handle version of the EJ 89) about a year ago and have been very pleased with that choice. If you are you trending toward more aggressiveness you might consider a Gillette New OC and/or a Gem Push Button. Both can be had cheap, and both are top shavers for the buck. Two years ago both seemed a bit too aggressive for me (I was on setting 5 on my Fatboy then), however, time and trends matter. Now that I am on Fatboy setting 7-8, I treasure these 2 razors and reach for them often. A somewhat less aggressive razor (Fatboy equivalent of 6-7) but still reasonably priced would be a Gillette Red Tip.
I am in contact with a few custom razor manufacturers to try and get My custom changed to and old type head. I hope it can be done cheaply. The one thing that is going to be a pain will be the shipping and waiting for 3 months to get it back.
I would consider a Merkur 1904. They are the nickel plated if I am not mistaken and are great shavers. It would fit into your current line up nicely. It can be had in both open and closed forms I think.
Hi Steve - nope I have never been out of the country. My Grandmother was from Germany and I just gravitated toward that and I have a lot of things German. I would love to go over there and visit.
Thanks Justin, from what I see there is only the Gillette logo and "made in the USA" and no other markings.
Well - you all have given me some food for thought. I think my next razor will be the EJ DE89. I would love to go for the Feather Stainless but I would have to rob a bank to get the funds for that one. However - this time around I think I will just go for a bunch of goodies from the TSD store. My RAD has been temporarily satisfied because of the Gillette NEW that I just cleaned up - nothing like getting a new razor that you already had! Thanks for all the input.
Belive me, it's much cheaper to save up and buy the feather right away than suffering from RAD for the next few years till you end up buying it anyway
