First shave with menth, BEST EVER!

Seriously though Brian, I'm glad you are enjoying the menthol experience. It is a delightful thing, menthol.

 

yeah... the menth crystals are just a gateway product. Next comes M-Bomb, iced soap, iced cream, iced AS, osage rub, Glacial, etc. etc. etc...

Just remember, many normal people suffer without sudafed so you can enjoy that crystal menth.

 

New to the DE world and really want to try the menthol crystals? Where can you find them or but them?

 

Just search for them on ebay. I got 8 oz, which is damn near a lifetime supply, for <$20 shipped, IIRC.

Well menthol is in peppermint oils. It is what makes it cool feeling. And why some people attribute peppermint and other mints to the scent of menthol... Which i believe has no scent, but causes nose to feel the effects.

I only started w/ 2oz and by the time I got a stable liquid, I now have a chefs squeezee bottle full of the stuff and at a few drops at a time its definitely going to last into my golden years!

So what is the best way to mix it with your soap cake? Sounds like you melted it first and then just add a few drops each shave? I can't wait to go nuts with this stuff, I just have to figure out how to use it?

 

First, you have to have a meltable soap or else it is a bit trickier, which translated means: I don't know how to do it. But, given you have a meltable soap, just add some crystals to the melted soap and stir until they dissolve. Let it cool and lather up. If it isn't mentholated enough, repeat the above steps. It is far better to do an iterative process like this than to dump all your menthol in and have an unusable product. Same goes with mentholating AS's, just add crystals and shake until dissolved. Start off with less and add more as needed until desired chill factor is achieved.

You can also get fancy and get a bottle of glycerin from the drug store and mentholate the piss out of it and add a few drops here and there as you please for individual shaves. I just mentholate the whole puck or bottle because I prefer menthol to not mentholated.

 

Here here... Long live the mentholated products! The colder the better...

 

I also heard that the M-bomb product sold in the shave den store works great! Would that also work on soap pucks?

 

The idea behind M-Bomb is to use it as an on the spot additive to mentholate items as you use them, not to mentholate whole pucks/tubs of soaps/creams or bottles of aftershaves.

For use on my non-mentholated soaps I put 3-4 drops on top of the puck before I taking the brush to the puck, or when I use shave sticks I put the drops into the brush bristles before I begin the lathering on my face, for creams I put the drops into my lathering bowl before whipping up my lather.

For aftershaves I just put the drops into my cupped hand, add the splash on top, rub my hands together then apply to my face.

 

Like Bill was saying, it is very utilitarian, the M-Bomb. As far as their soaps, any of the twice iced stuff is great. The scents are wonderful.

I mentholate everything I own so I skipped the M-Bomb for the crystals, but if you are ok with the menthol-less shave from time to time, I'd say the M-Bomb is perfect for that purpose.

 

So what kind of liquid and what was the process to make your squeeze bottle full?

 

I was messaging him and I believe he did alcohol and glycerin. Not sure the ratios he used.

 

So excited, just purchased 3 soaps with menth X2, the sub pre shave, and a bottle of m-bomb!! It's going to be a chill summer in Florida!
