    Hi folks,

    I'm new on here and pretty new to the wet shave.

    I got an Alum Block for the cuts and nicks I tend to get, but for some reason, it doesn't work at all.

    When there's a nick, I dampen the stone and apply to the cut, but it still continues to bleed... why is this?

    What is also weird, is that, when I started wet shaving, I never really got any nicks or cuts... but now-a-days, I get them nearly every time I shave:(

    Welcome and check out the newby section. Remember NO PRESSURE. it is beard reduction not trying to chop it all of with one pass.

    Also If you still are bleeding try a Styptic Pencil. They seem to work better.

    Don't worry, the shaves get better once your technique is more developed. :)

    Welcome to TSD! This is the best wet shave board on the planet.

    IIRC, the alum block and a styptic pencil are two different animals.

    Alum block = aftershave treatment.

    Styptic pencil = nicks.

    Also, the most likely reason why you are getting nicks from a DE when you did not get nicks from a cartridge razor is because the cart's teach / allow you to use pressure.

    DE = ZERO PRESSURE!

    Hi guys,

    Thank you for the really nice welcome:D

    What exactly is DE:confused::D

    Styptic pencil? Right, I must try that so. Thanks a million. So, Alum block is used more as an aftershave?

    Yes, my technique has plenty of room to develop:happy102

    I'm really enjoying this new hobby... I thought it was a phase, but alas, nay:D

    I think this is something that I will enjoy as part of my routine for years to come.

    Welcome to the cozy confines of The Shave Den.

    Find a comfortable leather recliner and set a spell.

    DE stands for Double Edge razor.

    You do need a Styptic because it is more concentrated in its application than the Alum Block so it will work better on nicks and cuts.

    Good fortune.

    +1 on the Styptic Pencil. It is all that I use on nicks and it works great.
