Hi All, My name is Steve, and I am a nomad currently bunking down in Hayward CA. I got into wet shaving for a number of reasons. The catalyst was sticker shock from the price of Mach 3 cartridges. Perhaps equally important to my switch was an admiration for old-time gear. I just love products that are substantial, well-made, and built to last, as opposed to the crap we are sold today. Finally, there is an element of zen in learning to do something well. I enjoy making the paradigm shift from "shaving is a chore I must do" to "shaving is a treat that I can do well and enjoy very much." I'm about 2 months into wet shaving, and am finally getting the hang of it, but it's been rough. I had to learn the hard way that my face is unique. I have to shave in a way that works for me, and not beat myself up if I don't get the results I desire from following Mantic's videos. For instance, I've finally accepted that I get my best shaves if I wait a day in-between and then shave exclusively ATG in short strokes with lots of relathering. No one seems to recommend that approach, but I'm BBS with no irritation, so I'm gonna run with it. That said, I have gotten excellent advice lurking around here. Namely: - zero pressure. Even though I understood the concept, muscle memory had me pushing and scraping, and I paid for it with some of the worst weepers I've ever had. - Keep it lubed up. every pass should be slick - no skipping. The next step will be to try and cut down how much time it takes. I enjoy the pampering and the ritual, but I can't see being able to continue once I get a job (knock on wood). Until then, however, I sure look forward to shaving days. Best, -Steve
