It's often commented on that people who start down the classic shaving road to save money find themselves buying more than they expected. You start with a Weishi, a puck of Williams, a Tweezerman, a re-purposed coffee mug, and twenty or thirty blades. The next thing you know, you have more than twenty soaps, a dozen brushes, a lifetime stash of blades, seven Old Spice mugs (among others), and a vintage razor collection. Do you find that you also buy non-shaving items that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise? Because of my interest in shaving, I've bought: Three pipe racks to hold my favorite razors. A 10-32 helicoil set, which I used to repair the stripped threads inside a 1910 ABC Pocket edition handle. It was in great shape apart from that, and it would have been a shame not to make it shaveworthy. Several plastic tubs to hold my stocks of blades. A bunch of desiccant packs to throw in the tubs with the blades. Some hobbyist felting material to reline a couple of razor cases. Maas polish. Brasso polish. And a display cabinet has to be somewhere down the road, although there's no hurry. Who else buys non-shaving items for shaving purposes?
I have a chrome toothbrush holder that is now holding razors. I also have a lobster chowder bowl I use for a lather mug. Several wooden cigar boxes to hold blades. Numerous dessert bowls that now hold soaps.

Couldn't get one more post in before logging out? We now return to your regularly schedule posting. I have bought some cool bottle for AS decanters, different mugs for soap storage/lathering. Actually, more stuff than I realized....
:happy102 I am not logged out. I don't think I have it set to show when I am logged in. I can't recall why I did that - I did it a long time ago. There, I think I fixed it. Am I logged in now?
I've got an old fishing tackle box to, what else, hold my shave stuff. I've got two wire baskets (the same baskets they used to give me at the public pool to store my clothes and towel) to, what else, hold my shave stuff. The wire basket was a great SWMBO idea-it holds razors on the top and bottom. Below is a picture of it. Looking at that pictures I see they are both over a year old, both are much much much more crowded now, funny how that happens. CONGRATS ON 9K Etoyoc!!!
I'm going shopping this weekend for one of those shaving mirrors that mount to the wall and move to where you need it. I got it past the finance\decorating committe with out even a Q&A session. What a minute! That must mean she wants something........
From Costco, a dozen Martex cotton hand towels. I like to use a new towel every shave, after me it dries the scuttle, razor, then sink. Tomorrow, a fresh new towel. I forget the price, but these are great. Available at more than just costco, too. Here they are at Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XNFTX4/?tag=thshde-20 I also have had a big, 100% cotton Turkish Bath Robe for years. If you don't have one, get one. Have your initials put in the pocket, it will make it feel much cooler that way! Every morning I shower (best prep there is, bar none), jump in the robe, fold the Martex towel in thirds lengthwise and lay it on the leading edge of the sink and lather up. Perfect.
A beautiful Dark Oak colored shelf with 3 levels for my shaving collection, as I was tired to hold it in bags...then I had to buy a wardrobe of the same color for my beloved, scandalous clothes...
noxzema deep cleaning cream with mosturizers as a pre shave , wicker basket to hold valour wash cloths ( shave towels ) 90% alcohol
Mostly plastic tubs, soup or large coffee cups from the kitchen, hand towels that I rarely used before, and more witch hazel.
Since my journey into this way of life the biggest thing I've started buying is better coffee. With that came the grinder, and now I'm designing and building a Vacum Coffee Pot system for my counter top as I've heard the quality of coffee from the Vacum machines is amazing, as well as very controllable. Must have the best coffee for my straight shaves you know! Interesting that the vac pots were yet another item that was left in the past, right about the exact same time our fine art was.
I make my lather in an oriental noodle soup bowl! I floats well and the thin ceramic walls transfer the heat from the water in the sink to the lather - works great!
I cleared out a whole cabinet in the bathroom for use as a shave den, then I filled it with product of all kind. Recently I have been buying a lot of stuff from L'Occitane that just a few years ago I would have considered "girly".
I have an aluminum toothbrush holder that I use to hold my razors. I bought some rare earth magnets from a cheap Chinese vendor and superglued them onto the bottom of my shave brushes. I can now place them right under my medicine cabinet. instant brush holder and the brushes hang upside down so they easily drain. However, recently the magnets broke and/or the magnets unglued so now I have some brushes without magnets. Altoid tin for used blades generic zipper pouch for assorted blade packs spray bottles for hair tonics and after shaves porcelain bowls for soaps ceramic mugs for soaps
