I purchased the futur online and received it awhile ago.Wanted to use it awhile before I gave my opinion.I really like the handle feel, weight, grip as well as the head design. Before I purchased it ,the reviews I read really only had a negative for the blade replacement method.I find this neither a plus or minus just takes a tad longer than TTO and about the same as a 3 piece. As for the aggressiveness of the adjustable range its quite broad.Set at #6 very aggressive and at #1 Very, very mild.
My only complaint ,is that it is hard to turn the handle too adjust with wet or dry hands. I now use a towel too hold the head of the razor while turning the handle.
I really enjoy shaving with my new razor, matched with my new crystal blades.

Do you have a problem with turning the handle to make adjustments?Mine is very tight.

Are you adjusting it while the razor is open or locked? I don't know anything about the merkur adjustable but i know the slims and such your supposed to have it open. It helps make it easier might be similar on the futur.

I have two but no problem with turning the adjustable; usually it is left on 3. You may want to set it without the head and blade attached as it will be easier and less likely to cut. Maybe it is just stiff with being new. Also, there is a wonderful thread here "Futur, love it or hate it" that shows assembly and disassembly with various types of lubrication choices. Doug

Isn't the Futur great. I love it. You are right about it having a wide range of aggressiveness - a setting for whatever mood you are in. I just used mine last night and got a two pass DFS. With another pass I would have gotten BBS, but with SWMBO asking if I was coming to bed anytime soon, prompted me to leave it at 2 passes and get to bed. :D

None at all. Very smooth, with our without the top cap on.

DougR mentioned a thread you might want to check out. If it's a brand new razor and the problem persists, I might consider either an exchange or a refund.

The Futur has a top cap to remove to change the blade. There is no loosening or locking down required as with the Gillette adjustables.

Sounds like you need to use a silicone or plumbers grease to lube it. I would recommend you disassemble it and lube it.

To Disassemble, open the razor to its widest gap and then remove the cap. Then put your index and middle finger below the head (with the handle between your two fingers) and push and hold down the top of the head with your thumb. While holding down (you will feel the tension of the spring while you are holding the head down), with your other hand, unscrew the handle. You will see the tip of the handle that needs to be lubricated. Use the smallest amount of silicone or plumbers grease.

Then reassemble, but make sure it is reassembled correctly. It doesn't matter which way the cap is oriented, but does matter which way you place the blade support platform (the part that has the "wires") back on. When reassembled set the adjustment to its lowest (i.e. mildest) setting, and make sure you verify that the bottom of the blade support platform on both sides is flush against the head prior to replacing the cap. If it is not flush, disasssemble and turn the blade support platform 180 degrees, re-assemble, and check once again. I have 2 Futurs and I found out the hard way that the blade support platform must be replaced properly.

I have disassembled the razor and put it back together and that made it much better. Also the second time added a little baby oil. That spring is strong!Maybe it wasn't assembled correctly, maybe spring was inserted incorrectly?Hope I have right

I use my Future about 95% of the time, I love it! I also use a towel over the cap to adjust the razor if it's loaded...it's just safer that way. I haven't turned mine in so long that I don't know if it's tight or not. I figured out that the "sweet spot" for me was to set the razor on 3, so I did and forgot it.

I'm going to take my Futur apart and give it a good cleaning this afternoon. Would vaseline be ok to grease the threads? Or is there a better grease to use?
