Here is one that I recently rescued. In need of lots of TLC. Some before and after fotos. The watermark shows 3 emblems, one is a winged lion, the second is a mariner's anchor and the thir...I just can not see well enough to know what it is, then it says sterling then LVN. The only marking on the inner barrel is sterling. The serial Number is on the head of the razor on the other side of the hallmarck, C193869. Does anyone have info on this razor. I'd like to think its a Gillette, since the serial number lends to that, but no gillette logo...hmm....
Just until one of the experts weighs in, I don't believe the absence of the Gillette diamond trademark or name proves anything one way or another. I have a couple of Old Types without them, and have been told this was not uncommon. Waits says that the diamond logo was filed for in 1908 and first used in advertising in 1909. It's not clear when it started appearing on all their razors. Anyway, whoever the maker was, that's one great looking razor.
This is a Gillette razor made by Gorham in the late 1900's, early 1910's. Gillette made razors for a few high end jewelry companys. It is pictured on page 141 in the Krumholz book. It is not unusual for Gillette not to use the Diamond trademark after the 1908 date. True ABC razors made into the 1910's did not have the diamond. Len
As Len said, made by Gorham. The serial number says made in 1912. Looks like a custom Aristocrat to me. Very similar to the 1910-1916 Aristocrat with the bell-end screw-out knob. Sweet score!
Thanks Everyone! I was happy with the cleaning up...although there are still a couple of hold out spots. Eventually I'll get 'em. I'll have to read through here more carefully tomorrow...I may have gotten a tad too much sun today to absorb anything else...:happy005
Thanks for the info from Waits, Slivovitz. I agree with you on the great looking razor part. Len! Thank you. Yes, there it is on page 141. I am not sure I would've spotted that if I was thumbing through the book for it. Thanks for pointing that out. So, it is part of a cased set. :think002 Thanks so much. :happy088 Thanks GD! Aluminum foil baking soda trick. I love it! :laugh042 I can only believe it will!::bath Thanks Jody!
