Just wanted to say Hello and introduce myself. Needing to learn alot of information about shaving and razors becasue the old way just isn't working and i'm getting married in two months and i want my face in top shape. Sick of the little facial issues that arise with poor shaving equipment, use and methods. NEED ADVICE! lol
You have come to the right place! Welcome to The Shave Den. I hope you enjoy your stay and good luck on the impending nuptials.
Hi! Welcome to the Den. Congrats on getting married. Portland, eh? Portland, Maine, or that other one?
Thanks guys. First line of business... What options should i consider when looking at buying a DE Saftey Razor? The Gillette Fat Boy looks top notch, but i'd rather not spend $50 for a razor. And I find it hard to believe that everything in life has to fall under the, "you get what you pay for" adage. Are there no other excellent brands out there for this type of razor that won't have the hefty price tag? Maybe some Japanese, German, Russian or Swiss companies???
Hello and welcome! I too am impressed by the looks of the fat boy, but having read the posts of many far more knowledgeable members than I, it would seem that the fat boy is the current 'in thing' and so carries the premium price tag, but fashions change so my plan is to wait until everyone is going mad for Ever Ready's having been reading around a lot, the modern razors that are mentioned the most seem to be; Edwin Jagger DE89l (British) Muhle R89 (German) Merkur 38C (German) As a Brit, I plan to get a EJ 86 with the black handle as my first 'pretty razor' I love the black and Chrome... something very Agatha Christie about it But for now I'm learning on a Wilkinson Sword (Schick) Classic and just bought myself my first SE... an Ever Ready off Ebay for £3.50 ($5) Enjoy your stay and congratulations on the wedding! Jon
Howdy. Welcome to the Den. I lived in Clackamas for a while before I came back to the east coast. As for a new razor, I would take a look at the Edwin Jagger DE89. It can be had for just under $30 on Amazon. I haven't used one, but they get plenty of good press. If you want a vintage razor, there are tons of them out there. Gillette Super Speed is a nice mild razor and shaver grade razors can be had very reasonably. Put up a WTB advert in the Classifieds. It probably wont take long to find a nice functional razor. As for blades, get a sampler. What is gold for one person, may be horrible for you. Two months is plenty of time to get up and running with a DE razor.
Hey Pneumo! I am getting married as well in 3 months! Congratulations! TSD is definitely the place to be. I joined a month ago and I have learned a lot about shaving the mug. Enjoy and ask lots of questions! Are you interested in straight razors at all? I have gone with the straight razor, and after much work, I am still getting my techniques in place for my wedding day (don't want a carved up face for the big day right?). Anyway, enjoy your stay.

Dang Beat me to it haha . That will help generally however after that... there are so many other great razors out there. Also if one of them doesn't work great for you try another don't just give up. I couldn't get a great shave from a SS but other razors give me great shaves. Welcome to TSD enjoy the stay and congrats on the marriage.
