I found this ABC razor at an antique store mixed in a case with some old jewelry for a whopping $5. While it won't win any beauty contests because it looks like the previous owner used this one a lot, it's a great shaver and I now have one of these beauties that I found in the wild. The last digit of the serial number isn't stamped very well but I believe it is D993433, which makes it a 1917 model.
Very nice in the wild find for a great price. Love the Old Types. Definitely my favorite DE razor. Congrats.
Congratulations. It must be satisfying to spot something like that, waiting for an appreciative buyer to happen along.
Congrats! May it serve you up many great shaves. I have one Old Type. After using it, I'm definitely on the look out for others.
Thanks everyone. I have a few Single Rings and Ball End Old Types and they are by far my favorite type of double edge razor. This one is every bit as good. After some discussion over at B&B I now believe the serial number actually starts with a B, instead of a D, which would make it a 1911 instead of a 1917. That makes it 100 years old, which is really cool. Here's a couple closeups of the number after darkening it with a black crayon, definitely looks like a B without the middle being clearly stamped.
Very nice, in the first close up of the serial number the last diddget looked like a 5 to me, and it still kinda does after you darkened it but it might look diff irl instead of a small photo on my iPad
Congratulations, an excellent find Tom. There is just something about having a piece of history right there in your hand to use, to be able to connect the then and the now... Just having something that is so well made that it lasted a 100 years, and knowing if you care for it proper, it could last another 100. You don't find that much any more.
