Got in this Georgett razor from eBay Italy today. A recap for those that don't want to watch the video.. aside from the nice blade boxes that caught my eye for this set, the razor itself has a uniqe locking mechanism in the handle that holds and releases the head cap by pushing in on the ball-end bottom of the handle. I'm guessing this razor is French made due to the name and the fleur-de-lis design found on the blade boxes. I'm also guessing this razor was made sometime between the 1910s and late 1920s based on the design of the set and the fact that it came with 7 original Georgett 3-hole double edge blades. 1928 was the last year of production for Gillette's own 3-hole blades so that's what I'm going off of. The reason I'm doing all of this guessing is because I can't find any information on any razor by the name of Georgett - not in any of the online razor encyclopedias or collections and not in the Waits Safety Razor Compendium. The razor is silver plated. Unique and neat design. To see it in action, watch the video - my first ever video so don't laugh. :happy102:

Well done on your first video! Do you think you'll have to shim it to get a modern blade to work with it?

Thanks! I don't plan on doing many videos. Only when a razor must be seen in action to understand how it works.

I really shouldn't call this my first video but instead my first "on-camera and talking" video. I did do one other video showing the unique self-sharpening, head-rotating-and-flipping Ronson Razor but I wasn't in the video nor did I talk... just played with the razor to show its features.

Thank you! Not at all. Modern blades fit it fine. Now if I wanted some curvature in the blade, I'd definitely do so but I plan on trying it out as it was originally intended. The teeth seem longer than usual and they do have an angle to them on the top side.

The video and pictures are great, Jody, and give lots of information on a very uncommon razor.

If you bought the razor from eBay Italy, you might try asking member Arizona Dreams about it. He is in Italy and could be able to provide additional information.

Maybe the coolest razor design I've seen. That whole release mechanism thing is cool. Very easy. Another great find Jody and good job on the vid dude. Really cool to put a voice to the face.

    Thank you everyone. :)

Well I didn't shave with it last night because I got lazy and didn't shave. But I did give it a good boil in vinegar and Dawn soap on the stove. Then a good baking soda/boiling water in aluminum foil soak to remove the tarnish on the silver. It's looking much better now. No more rust on the head-cap and I was correct in that the rust didn't go through the plating, so that's a good thing too. I also got the one bent tooth back in place, thankfully without any damage to it or the plating. So it's ready to go when I'm ready to go.

Just a before & after photo of cleaning and polishing and bent tooth no longer bent.. a 10 minute boiling water bath in vinegar and Dawn followed by a 20 minute soaking in an aluminum foil-lined bowl filled with baking soda/boiling water (the best for removing tarnish from silver)

Very nice razor Jody with an interesting design. Since Gillette held some patents through Probak on the "NEW/PROBAK" blade keypunch design, the three holed blades held on a little longer than the 1920s. In fact the Germans were still manufacturing three hole blades during WW2 (reference photo below). It is entirely possible that this razor may have been produced in the 1930s in France due to the retaining mechanism.

Jody, thanks for a enjoyable razor-log; the observations about mail was also informative as I wondered about that problem. Did you take French lessons before attempting to pronounce all of the words? Nicely done

That is an amazing transformation to say the very least. Did you dilute the vinegar any or just use it straight from the bottle?

Very interesting razor, thanks for the video pointing out some of the features. Really like the push button head release, pretty cool. :happy088:

My only critique is leave out that Ole Miss helmet at the beginning. ;) Replace it with one that's Red with a Big G on the side.

Thank you. I just poured the vinegar straight from the bottle into the pot of boiling water. Then I squeezed some Dawn dish washing liquid into the pot. Stirred it and allowed it to come back to a boil. Then put the 2 pieces, head cap and handle, into the pot and let it "cook" for 10 minutes. This breaks up and cleans out any old soap in the handle and of course, sterilizes the razor for use. It's gross but neat when you're done to see what all is left behind floating around in the water. Razor handles can hold lots of soap and whiskers. :happy102:

    Thanks Steve!

I was wondering who'd take the first swipe at Ole Miss! :happy096: :happy102: :)

Just a note.. I did shave with it last night. This is one very aggressive razor! Wasn't expecting it at all. The first pass drew blood but once I got it going, the rest was great! BBS all over, including my head which I keep shaved during these hot summer months. Lathered up some Russian Tet-a-Tet shaving cream which Dale was so kind enough to send me to try, loaded the razor with a new Russian Voskhod blade and went at it. Finished off with some Russian Tet-a-Tet aftershave balm, again thanks to Dale. I don't normally like menthol anything but the Tet-a-Tet was a nice change. All in all, I really enjoyed this shave and this razor.
