Saturday - it's the weekend! Time for the SEs. Prep: 40 minute marinade with TSD ISZ PSB, hot shower, hand strop blade Coffee: BJ's Kenya AA, BLACK Soap: TSD Cedarwood + 2 drops M Bomb Brush: Vulfix 406, The Burlington Razor: Rhodes Kriss Kross on loan from Derrell Blade: ??? brand Injector blade, day 2, 3+ passes Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash, Dickenson's WH, Curve, hand strop blade 'Stache Wax: Firehouse Wacky Tacky Shave Rating: 5 Blades A unique razor, indeed. The head can pivot 180 degrees. Picture this - start with the handle in the 6 o'clock position, like a standard DE. Hold the head still and the handle can swing over to the 3:00 position, then all the way over to the 9:00 position. The head has a curved piece that comes up from the back of the razor's head and over the top to clamp and hold the blade in place. Pressing down on the curved part of this piece lifts the front of the piece enough to slide in an injector blade. There are no stops as on an SE, so positioning the blade is up to the user to make sure it's being clamped down even. I made my first pass using the razor in the traditional manor - handle at 6:00. Very nice. For pass number two and three, I pivoted the head to either 3 or 9, depending on the direction of the stroke I was making. This resulted in being similar to using a Japanese-style fixed handle straight This was a little inconvenient since I had to stop, pivot, then resume the shave. Nothing too bad, just a minor inconvenience, as I said. Didn't have to worry about slicing myself as much as I do with a str8, either. During all of this I discovered something that would appeal to some, maybe others not so much - in essence this razor could be considered an adjustable razor. I found that moving the blade forward or back made the razor more aggressive or milder, respectively. All in all, the results were a very good shave worthy of the 5 blade rating. Many thanks to DC for allowing me to use his Kriss Kross. I'll use it again tomorrow, clean it up, then ship it off to Jeff in FL.
Thank you, its good to be back home. I am having a nice cup of black coffee and watching kermit with my daughter.
Saturday, August 13, 2011 Pre-shave soap: Musgo Real Glyce Lime Razor: Merkur Futur Blade: Astra Superior Platinum Brush: Vie-Long Gonzalo Horse/Boar Soap: Ogallala Bay Rum & Sweet Orange A/S: Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Provence Sante Verlaine Splash I was in a citrus mood this morning, and decided to pull out the Ogallala soap. I was rewarded with a fine, fragrant shave--smooth and close. When shaving with a glycerine soap, I always pay special attention to my technique because the soap has excellent glide but, in my opinion, less cushion than the typical hard soap. Therefore, there is a greater chance for nicks if one is not careful. No nicks today--great way to start a Saturday!

Friday, August 12, 2011 Prep: Hot shower, California Baby face wash, cork & hand strop blade Lather: Real Shaving Co. Sensitive Brush: Frank Shaving Fine Badger Razor: Ever Ready 1924 Blade: Walgreen's Gem (1), 2 passes Post: WH + alum splash, Aqua-Velva Ice Blue, hand strop blade Cold water shave My 2nd shave with the '24 and I must say this razor devours facial hair. I may have to reserve this razor for when I have at least 2 days worth of growth as the amount of blade showing here really makes for a close shave. I definitely could not use this as my daily razor, but when there's a jungle that needs de-foresting then the '24 will be battling with the OCMM for that honor and privilege. I'm not sure if it's the shorter handle or not, but I feel like I can control the OCMM better. So maybe just some more practice with the '24 will allow me to wield it more frequently. Due to user error I did get a pretty good nick on the very bottom of my nose, but the rest of the shave was just super close and amazingly comfortable. Sensitive Brush: Frank Shaving Fine Badger Razor: Gem MM Clog Pruf Blade: Walgreen's Gem (2), 2 passes Post: WH + alum splash, Aqua-Velva Ice Blue, hand strop blade Cold water shave My first shave with the CP in a long time and I have to thank Jeff for inspiring me to get back to it sooner rather than later. What a comfortable and close shave. I had a very close shave yesterday with my Ever Ready 1924, so much so that I thought about not shaving today. But then I saw the CP and I went to work on an easy 1 pass + touch-up for another DFS with zero irritation.

Thanks Steve! You hit it right on the head about the position of the blade determines the aggressiveness. Matter of fact everything you mentioned is exactly what the instruction sheet says. It's very old but readible. It is no doubt a nice shaving razor with the injector blade inserted inside. Glad you did a wonderful job with your critique and assessment of the razor Steve! DC
