My all-time favorite cut of Benny Goodman because it features Fats Navarro, aswell as Wardell Grey. Benny's only real attempt to embrace Be-Bop. But the when a reporter asked Fats how he liked playing with "The King of Swing", Fats said, "You mean the King of Corn?" and Benny immediatly canned the whole project...Shame, I really think he was on to something...

It is amazing how Benny Goodman the traditionalist brought so many "modern" jazz musicians into the spotlight. For all his warts, Benny Goodman was the first to really have an interracial band.
He was looking for the highest caliber musicians and that was all that mattered to him.

Charlie Christian was the first modern guitarist who brought the electric guitar to national prominence and was the first electric guitarist to appear on the popular music scene. He changed pop music forever and all modern guitarists owe a great deal to him.

Here what Les Paul had to say about him. Les Paul came to fame later as he relates in this story.

I am not big on CCR, but that song I have always liked!

With rain in mind, lets go to Memphis and Hi Studios. The year is 1974. Although, she was overshadowed by Al Green, she was and is an excellent artist in her own right.
Backed up the the Royal Horn Section and the Hi Studio band that backed up Mr. Green.

Now we take you to the powerhouse of Hi Records. Born April 13, 1946 in Forest City, Arkansas, Al Green began singing in his family’s gospel group. His distinctive vocal talent and extraordinary ability to master pop, R&B, and gospel genres has enabled him to become an international superstar. Green is Hi Records’ most awarded singer and songwriter. In a phenomenal career spanning more than thirty years, Green has charted six #1 hits and been inducted into the prestigious Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

At Hi in the Sixties, Mitchell was already working with the core of what would become one of the world's greatest rhythm sections -- guitarist/leader Teenie Hodges, his organist brother Charles and bassist brother LeRoy. Known as Hi Rhythm, the Hodges Brothers, along with drummer Howard Grimes, remains the premier ongoing Memphis soul section.
