This is one of the most popular and best-known creams from most wetshaving forums. Musgo Real, from Portugal has been around for quite a long time. Ease of lathering: 10/10--Great lather which is so easily created. This cream likes water. Longevity of lather: 10/10--Again, no problem with the stability. General skincare: 8/10--For me, it's good. If you're allergic to lanolin, stay away from this stuff. Scent: 8/10--Grassy, green, yet barbershoppy, with a hint of mint. Very nice. Price: 7/10--Fairly reasonable in price. Definitely not a bank-buster. Would I buy again: 9/10--Although I prefer other creams, I'd buy Musgo regularly. This stuff has been reformulated several times. Musgo has always been well-known as a lanolin cream, and there have been guys who have experienced discomfort from it, so again I suggest that if you have skin which is allergic to lanolin, you would be better off not using this stuff. If you don't have a lanolin allergy, you will probably love Musgo.
I've been thinking about trying their complete line of products. Shave cream, after shave balm, pre shave oil, pre shave soap, and their bath soap or gel.
Its a great cream, took me a little while to warm up on the scent as it reminded me of the bug spray I used as a kid. Lathers just as good as the 3 T's, shaves excellent and works great with my face, no issues with lanolin here!
I like that. I heard and read about the sent being a lot of things from barber shop smell, grass, and Ben Gay, but never bug spray. I have got to order some of this so I can figure it out for myself.
Pull the trigger on the shave cream, its smell is slightly mossy and I can see someone being reminded of fresh cut grass ,as Jeff is saying it reminds one of the barber shop because its a masculine scent, Paul Sebatien is not a barbershop scent but it does remind one of the barber shop because its manly. With Proraso and Speick Musgo has long been considered by wetshavers one of the classic creams all of us have to get a tube of. The Musgo After Shave is some of the nicest A/S I have used, never read a bad word on it, masculine scent and good skin care. The Musgo cologne dissappointed , okay, but very linear. I have tried also the preshave soap , nice scent and its oils do set up the face for slick shaving. I have not tried their bath products but would not bet against them. One thing about the scents of Musgo products is that they smell very natural and old world /school, nothing synthetic about them.
Well, as Hanzo said, I pulled the trigger. I just ordered the following. 1 - Shave Cream 1 - After Shave Balm 1 - Round Bar of the Face Soap 1 - Bar of the Bath Soap I will either smell good or be sleeping outside with the dogs.
One of my favorites. The Vitos cream has replaced Pro Green in my den; but the Musgo will always have a spot on the shelf.
I finally figured out what Musgo cream scent reminds me of. Not the barbershop but instead my barber from when I was a youngster back in the 60's. He must have used the Musgo shave cream himself. It brings back great memories for me, he used to give me a couple of bucks to go to the drugstore and buy comic books for the shop, what a great guy! If you've never used the Musgo ASB you're in for a treat, not much of a scent but very soothing.
Can't remember exactly why I didn't care for Musgo, maybe it was the scent, but whatever the reason it just never grabbed me and I PIF'd off a twice used tube.
Well, it arrived today. I will try it out on Thursday mornings shave. Initial smell was very pleasing.
My sniff test tells me this is about the best description of the way it smells. It is different and I like it. The After Shave Balm ain't bad either.
All I can say right now is that it smells good (manly). I will be using it tomorrow and I will let you know how it performs in the shower. I order most of my products from Smallflower, the online division of Merz in Chicago. Just takes UPS one day to deliver product. Smallflower
I'm rather new to it, but I'm loving it! The earthy/grassy, yet clean and classic scent appeal to me and the shave is great! It's so rich in moisturizing properties that when used with my ridiculously hard mineral well water here in PA, I have to wash the brush out with regular bar soap or it leaves a heavy film in my brushes. Other than that, it's great! ....guess I know what my next shave will entail! Happy Shaving!
Okay, here are my thoughts on the Musgo Real products I used this morning. 1. Bath Soap - Lathers well and leaves skin feeling squeaky clean. Sort of has a woodsy smell. (Felt like Paul Bunyon) 2. Glyce Lime Face Soap - Excellent job of preparing your face for a shave. (DO NOT get this in your eyes) Ouch! 3. Shave Cream - Lathers like crazy. As crackstar said, it likes or can handle a lot of water. All the smells listed in crackstars post pretty much describe it. 4. Shave Quality - I used my Feather Popular this morning and it just glided over my face. Just two passes this morning and I feel great. 5. After Shave Balm - Wow! I love this stuff. The skin on my face, forearms, and hands feels great. It was very soothing after the shave. Now, I have always been a Proraso man and I have always liked menthol. This is the first non-menthol shave that I have enjoyed. So, I now have a second brand I will be using. No dog house for me. I smell good.
As I stated, the Musgo cream does contain menthol, but you would never think so. However, some guys have mentioned that they can feel a very slight cooling sensation from it.
How would you describe the Musgo Real ShaveCream compared to the Proraso ShaveCream in regards to smell, thickness/quality of lather, comfort during and after shaving and finally if you HAD to choose one of the two - which one would it be ?
