All I can say is I am shocked at how much info and enthusiasm there is around shaving. Last week I ran out of Mach III blades and thought there must be a better way so i started searching around. I am sick of spending money on them. Bought a Parker 91 that came with some Shark Chrome blades (any opinion?). It was an inexpensive package throug amazon. I watched a bunch of the you tube videos a well. There were very helpful. Still hacking up my chin but the rest of my face is starting to get better. Still doesn't feel as close of a shave I was getting with the Mach's but I know I am still learning. I am getting real nice lather using Williams soap. I do have a water softener and I am sure that helps. Thanks for providing such a great community to learn. Tim
Welcome to TSD Tim! This is the best wet shave board on the planet! The Shark blades are okay, but there is a whole world of blades out there to try. Pick up a blade sampler!
Welcome to the Den. Many of us here started with DE to save money. I can't say it never happens, but it is rare. It will take a few weeks, but the shaves do improve. At least for me, the act of shaving went from something I had to do to something I looked forward to each day.
Howdy and Welcome to The Shave Den! Great community here and glad to have you here. Nice set up, its all about what works for you, and that's a great way to get started. I did the same thing (Parker 96R). I like the sharks, but blade samplers are a wonderful way to try a variety of different brands without too great of an investment.
Again, welcome to The Shave Den Tim, a great community of guys and gals that enjoy wet shaving, I hope you enjoy your stay! Welcome! I'm new to the whole Double Edged Razor thing myself. I've only tried two blades so far, just generics from the local stores, but I have to say that both blades behaved completely different. I purchased the sampler from the TSD store and so I'll probably be trying a third blade when I shave this evening.
Well on my third shave or so. Things are much better after spending a lot of time reading up. I don't think you have to spend much either. My cheap Williams soap , a 10 dollar brush and My Parker 91r seems more than satisfactory. This quickly turns into a hobby I can see. (-:
Very nice and thanks for the update. I can say for sure that for me, there is a MASSIVE difference between old and new Williams. The older Williams pucks that have Sodium Tallowate listed first are MUCH easier for me to get a great lather from that the newer pucks where Sodium Stearate is listed first. That is not to say that new Williams is junk, just that it takes extra work for me.
