They really don't - do you guys have any idea how old this soap is? Well, Shavallo is an English soap which dates back to the early 1900's! I was lucky to receive a couple of pucks of this wonderful soap from a good friend of mine in this Group. Although this stuff is very long-lasting, when they're finished, it'll be the end, because this soap was discontinued long ago. Ease of lathering: 10/10--Creates extremely rich and creamy lather. Outstanding. Longevity of lather: 9/10--Great stability. You can do multiple passes easily. General skincare: 8/10--Leaves the skin feeling pretty comfortable and good. Scent: 8/10--Traditional and very nice. I love it. Price: N/A--I received these as a gift, so I have no idea how cheap/expensive it was. Would I buy again: 10/10--Absolutely yes, if it was still around. I'd buy a dozen!! Why do they always discontinue the good stuff? Shavallo was such a fantastic soap which performed so well, and always delivered excellent lather with a nice scent. It's a pity that it's no longer on the market, and it hasn't been for years.
So many good stuff went to the Land of Eternal Hunt... Does it means today's products are not as good as vintage were?
I think there are a lot of great products available to us today. I also think that the products that we all love are made by companies or individuals who understand quality and reputation, and make their products with those concepts in mind. The Shavillo soap crackstar reviewed was likely made in a simpler time, before the kind of marketing and mass production we have today (which we see in the production of canned creams, disposable cartridges and other things we wet shavers have rejected). But there are still plenty of great things out there for us to use. I wrote a review earlier today of an artisan shaving soap I discovered recently. The product was really great, and as long as there are people and companies out there making those products, we will buy and use them.
