    Hey guys,

Very new to this forum, but I have been struggling with shaving my whole life. I am in my late twenties and have never had a shave without razor bumps, pimples, and in grown hairs. It is pretty out of control. It doesn't matter what shave cream or direction I shave. Nothing seems to help, but I have always used an electric or cartridge razor. This forum and all the praise about using DE razors has got me excited. I want to be able to shave and enjoy it! Everything in the classifieds sells so quickly that I couldn't find anything that fits my needs. Any help or advice in finding something? I would prefer to get a good deal on something used for my first DE razor.

If nobody comes through for you, might I recommend the Lord L6, the head is quite similar to the 89 and shaves about as aggressive as the 34C.

The only knock is the light aluminum handle, for $11.95 shipped its worth a look.

First - Hi! Welcome to the Den.

I'll put in a plug for the L6, as well. Great razor for the buck. Like Aaron said, shaves much like my 34C.

I might also recommend the Feather Popular razor for about $20 delivered.

    Close smooth shave.

The used market is a wide open market. Though you may not find too many good deals on an EJ or Merkur HD. If you expand your horizons a little there is a world of Great vintage used razors out there for minimal change. The common Gillette Tech or Super Speed is a great place to start.

Bill "Dridecker" has put together some great info on what razor to get, new or used.

Sounds great guys. You all have some good helpful info. I guess I was looking for a 34C mostly because I heard its very common and good for beginners or seasoned veterans. I guess maybe I need to look around some more.

I will definitely look into the Lord L6. Does the aluminum handle make it harder to shave without applying some force. I have heard that with a good heavy DE razor you more just let gravity to the work and you just kind of guide the razor.

With the head design on the L6, the lighter handle actually makes it feel more aggressive and changes the balance, I actually use a lighter touch with it than say a Sledgehammer.

I have a 34C that gets little use. Send me a PM and we'll work something out Slim.

I LOVE my Edwin Jagger DE89L. It's mild to my face, but really tackles the whiskers. It's perhaps a tad pricey for a starter, but if you found it not to your liking, I think it would hold it's value very well for resale. But remember, mastering technique is just as important as a good DE razor - and it does take time to get it right. Whenever you make your selection of razor, stick with it and really get to know it even if it's not going perfectly before getting another one. The differences between razors can be significant to really throw you off ....at least this has been my experience. Oh, and welcome aboard! :)
