Two days and I'm officially a fan of vintage Williams. It's right up there with the other "almost as good as MWF" soaps like TSD, DR Harris, and Speick IMHO. The lather is amazingly slick and protective.

Wow, my face is still frozen from all this menthol - the Ingram cream from Egypt really does have a stronger cooling effect than the UK version. The Astor blade looks like it will make it for 6 shaves, but I don't think I'll buy any more of them. I definitely prefer my Rapiras. :biggrin:

Too much water can be a bad thing for lathering. Try letting it soak for less time, and perhaps use just a tad more. I have found, that, the thicker the lather on my face and the better my pre-shave technique, the fewer nicks I will get. Experiment with that for a little while.

Thomas Turner & Co "Lancet Edge" - Culmak Soap - Simpson 57 - Alum - Blue Stratos AS

Today is my day off so I did a superficial restore on the Lancet Edge, honed it and shaved with it. I am reliably informed that the shape (wider at the toe than heal) is how they were made and it seemed to suit the contours of my face well. It took a lovely edge, I got a good HHT result straight off the stones and after stropping it was super. A satisfying, shave and the 1st of many with this razor.​

I looked for my Williams yesterday but couldn't find it, so I purchased a puck at a grocery store near me, paying the princely sum of $1.19. When I opened the little box, I found the puck to be yellowing around the edges a bit. It appears that this stuff doesn't exactly fly off the shelf at that store. I also wasn't greeted by the strong signature scent of the Williams, possibly a good thing. Anyway, this morning, the Gonzalo whipped up a decent lather from the Williams and the shave turned out to be pretty good. Maybe the secret is to age the puck for a year or so before using it.

What a shave! I borrowed my father's red tip and he offerred me his shavemac too, to try out (he uses a small EJ brush). I had always wanted to try the red tip as I am looking to possibly getting one. The razor performed beautifully! Absolutely no irritation at all! I like it better than my TV Superspeed. As for teh brush...that thing was massive. The knot is at least 30mm, loft about 50-55mm, and a massive handle. The knot is set lower so there is no fanning out of the bristles. I had a hard time making lather with it and applying the lather. Tomorrow I will try some Mama Bears to see if it will work any better than the MWF.

All in all, it was a beautiful shave!

Back to DE until my strop gets here. Paper stropping just wasn't cutting it, the blade wasn't dulling just not taking care of the edge as well as leather, not as smooth.

When looking for my seldom used puck of William's came across a few "lost" tubs of Honeybee Sue's soaps and decided to experiment again--I had been using a bowl to whip up lather before - now I face lather. It was worth the experiment--liking the results.

The 2nd shave with the Personna 74 was much smoother than the 1st. The great shave was topped off by the double dose of menthol from the Italian Palmolive and the Proraso Splash. Very nice indeed.

9 years ago today I married my best friend and she officially earned the title of TWGW just for actually saying "I do"! I received my blade order yesterday so I loaded up my late grandfather's Schick for the first time ever for me, and who knows how many decades since it's last use. This was my first ever injector shave and it ROCKED! I love SEs and this razor will make a comfortable addition to my SE rotation. An all around great day and shave.

the vintage (in about 10 years) I'd use the modern.
