Open Comb Week Oct. 3-9, 2011

What blade are using in this razor?

Open Comb week sounds great. Was wondering what razors I would use this week.

 

Durham Dog Dresser Blades available from Amazon . Not SS so blades must be dried after each shave.

 

I too will be using a new OCMM that I found yesterday for $5. I'm in the process of cleaning it up now. So I now have 3 of my favorite razors, the OCMM. I will try to use all of them during Open Comb week. Though after receiving some serious wind burn on my face yesterday I'm not sure if I'll be able to use them every day this week. Maybe I'll just limit myself to 1 pass until the face heals a bit more.

 

My only OC is a Merkur 25C OC - which I haven't used in a long time, as I could never get a particularly close shave with it, regardless of what blade I loaded. I guess I'll dig it out, dust it off, and give it another go for a week. If this week doesn't change my opinion of it, it gets permanently retired.

 

Huh... I must have PIF'ed away my last OC MM? Inconceivable... There must be one around someplace...

Sorry, not taking pics... cameras self destruct near me. However, Gem Deluxe was this morning, I am thinking the Rapide tomorrow.

Gillette NEW Short Comb,
Personna Med Prep Blade (3)
Rooney 1/1 Best Badger Brush,
Arko shave soap w/ hot water lather,
finish w/ cold water rinse. DFS!

The Gillette NEW Short Comb or Long Comb are my daily razors of choice for a close, comfortable shave!

For some reason I seem to gravitate to a Merkur on Mondays.
Today was no different. The 11C was at the plate today, loaded up with a Voskhod.
Nice shave. A little rough, but I've had blades where the first shave is like that, then they smooth out.
We'll see.

Have you tried corking the blade to see if it smooths out that first shave?

 

Nope. I always hand strop before every shave, even with a brand new blade before the first shave.
Not really overly concerned about it. Wasn't so rough that I'm going to change anything.

Just ordered my R102, Connaught finally has the in stock again. To bad I won't get to use it this week

 

Do you have a dremel? Just cut some teeth in one of your current razors...

Ugh! Monday's shave was HORRIBLE!

I tried using the Open Comb Micromatic and it started scraping up my face pretty bad. It's probably my fault and need to learn how to hold the thing correctly. My face was irritated enough that I had to finish up with the Lord L6 and only do a two pass shave.

Styptic pencil, Alum Block, Witch Hazel. That is all the Aftershave I used, I didn't dare want to splash alcohol on my face. The Alum block burned enough..

We'll see how my face is tomorrow as to whether or not I use the OCMM again, and if I do I'm not even going to try and touch my neck with it.
