After six great shaves with my R41, I decided this morning I wasn't awake enough for the R41, so I used my trusty Sheraton loaded with a perma-sharp super. Great shave, although initially it felt like I forgot to insert the blade. That's what a R41 can do ;-)

    Todays shave:
    Gillette Sheraton
    Perma-Sharp super
    Semogue Caravela
    Speick shave stick
    Weleda ASB

Received in the mail yesterday my new Muehle R41 with the new 2011 head...

    Muhle R41 2011 head
    New Voskhod blade
    TSD Yin Yang shaving cream
    Simpson Berkeley Best Badger brush
    Proraso Liquid Cream ASB

This was one rough shave. It just didn't feel right at all. But the results.. my face is smooth as glass. Glass I tell ya! The new R41 head can double as a windshield ice scraper too! The R41 is pretty much a straight razor without scales but instead with a handle. Seriously, why even have a guard on this thing? It's pure blade edge on your face! Slow going with this one, for sure.

    Col. Conk Amber SS
    Ever Ready Boar
    Proraso A/S, Master Bay Rum

5 Blades, again. I think I may have found the blade/razor sweet spot on this one.

I really enjoyed my Dutch treat this morning - do you guys know that the De Vergulde Hand soap has been around for over 450 years? I'll bet it's the world's oldest soap, so the company which produces it obviously is doing something right! ;)

A/S: Booster Iced Limes, then Royall Lyme

I'm in the process of thinning out my DE herd and giving all but one a try this week (I'm NEVER getting rid of my grandfathers old DE). The Slim did an acceptable job, but not near as good as a straight or any of my Merkurs (which I'm also keeping). I seem to get the smoothest shaves from my Merkurs and/or straight razors. Tomorrow will likely be a straight razor shave (with DE touch up) in anticipation of the receipt of my new Dovo later this week!

    Schick Blade (5)
    Penworks Finest
    MEM Olive
    Proraso White

Well, I reckon I can only get 5 amazing shaves from one of these injector blades. The shave was smooth, it just needed a double effort to get the job done. I had a few knicks on my chin, but when the blade is duller, going ATG on the toughest hair will do that to me. Other than those few spots, I received a really nice shave and my face is as smooth as ever!

I won this razor as part of a lot on Ebay. It was rusted and pitted with busted scales and I nearly chucked it out but I thought today that I'd have a try at cleaning it up. Well its not going to win any beauty contest and its pretty badly pitted but I honed it and placed it, temporarily, in a spare pair of scales I have.

Honing was a fast and furious job, as I removed a chip and set the bevel on the 1k side of my King combo, then stepped up to the 6K side, then went through the dilucot method with a coticule, then a few laps on a Crox stop for good measure. After stropping it was passing the HHT with flying colours.

The 2 pass shave was very pleasant and close with no effort, the edge is pretty keen. I'd kind of hoped it would be bad then it would simply be a matter of throwing it out, but its not so I guess that I shall give it some more polishing and make up some proper scales for it.

    Brush: Simpson Rover
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Soap: Palmolive Shave Stick

The Futur/Ladas combo cut through my two day growth like a hot knife through butter. I enjoyed an excellent BBS shave followed by a very pleasant splash of Meehan Bay Rhum.

I forgot all about my Palmolive shave stick. I won it from a contest The Shave Den had a couple of years ago, used it once, and then stuck it in the far recesses of my shave den and forgot about it. I'm glad I pulled it back out. Between it and Arko I don't think I'll ever need to spend more than $2 on shave cream or soap. Now I can start recouping the cost of my first 3 years wet shaving.

I grate Palmolive stick (or 2) into a bowl. I find its great but lacks in the fragrance department. One day I'm going to experiment with adding different fragrances in while grating.
