Given the purported history of Bay Rum (invented by South Seas sailors, preferred by pirates, etc) you'd think it's good in warmer if not hot weather. And it does work fine year round, I think. But now that it's hit the '30 and two states to the right of me people are socked in with Halloween snow, the time for B.R. is really right. I went down to my climate controlled a/s vault this morning and broke into my reserve stock of Avon Bay Rum (1965 vintage - an excellent year, zero clove). Mixed in a few drops of glycerine and slapped some on after this morning's shave. Wonderful stuff, greatly improved by the glycerine. And the scent is just vaguely Christmas-y enough that I could see wearing it to the office Christmas party. If we had a Christmas party. And if I were invited. Gonna go drink some Bay Rum now...make some Ramen noodles...open the oven and turn on the gas... Just wanted to share that.
Every day is perfect for Bay Rum... It is a rare occurrence for me to splash something other then Superior 70 on in the morning.
I don't "seasonalize" my soaps, scents, or menthol. I know lots of folks do. I just use 'em year round.
I would say to get the full bottle. I probably spilled more than I got in my hand with that little vile. I am not a bay rum connoisseur, so I am not sure if it fits the traditional mold of a Bay Rum - but on it's own accord smells very nice (and everyone who has tried is says the same). Can't wait to get the big bottle!
I get mine from Walgreens. Typically they must order it from another store, which they generally are quite willing to do. No shipping cost to you.
I'm lucky that a bodega right across the street from my work carries it for $2.09 a bottle. I have never seen it in a chain store.
I tried that at a local store...they played dumb. I couldn't see the screen they pretended to look at (I know Sup70 was there) but they kept saying, "Hm, I just don't see that product." I'll try again at another store.
That happened to me once too. The employee asked for my phone # so they could research it and call me, and they did within a day. Getting a capable employee is probably a key variable. When I do connect, I try to order a few bottles and use them for stocking stuffers so others (and me too) will not have to bother with this process anytime soon.
