First shave used my new Parker 99r with a Merkur super platinum blade, Cella shave cream and my brand new Vulfix 1000a pure badger brush.Whipped up a good lather in a rice bowl I had put ahot towel on my face for a few minutes then lathered up. I did 3 passes with only a few weepers and next to no burn finished up with some Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum. I think this is the best shave i have ever had and the wife says my face is so smooth.

I have a sample pack of blade that was just a recommended starting point.I was very surprised that i didn't even feel the razor cutting unlike my old cartridge razors.

    Neolithium I am Canadian, eh

Oh it's very smooth when you have 1 blade going along your skin instead of 12(to the power of 200) blades with titanium super nano coating with reflex fit technology and a hyperlubrication strip attached to the cartridge at a mere 40x the cost of a DE blade ;)

No smack talk on the Merkur blades mister.

Congrats. The shaves do get better as your technique improves. The Merkur is as good a place as any to start. Everyone has different tastes and you need to figure out what works best for you. Out of the list you posted, I like the Russian Green Super Stainless 7OC the best. If one variety of blade doesnt work for you now, put it away for a while and revisit it. It is amazing what time and practice do.

Awesome! :happy093: As your technique improves those weepers will become few and far between. It takes time and practice, but I've not looked back since making the switch 3-4 years ago. Blades are very personal though, and require experimentation. I've found blade reviews to be rarely that helpful except for some obvious generalities like Feathers are much sharper than German Wilkinson Swords, but as for which one of the two fits YOU best, only you can know that.

    Happy Shaving! :shaver
