Now that I have a couple hundred blades, I need to graduate from a ziplock bag to something larger for the den. I'm thinking along the lines of apothecary drawers or maybe a tea chest. How are you storing your blades?
The 2 drawers in my wall-hanging what-not shelf. And yes, I need to dust. When you use talcum powder, it tends to go everywhere and settle everywhere and before you know it, it's coated everything, including your lungs.
Wooden cigar box with a few packs of desiccant. I keep it in the linen cabinet that is not in the bathroom subject to the moisture.
Having only about 8-10 packs of blades on hand, I use an empty round Q-Tip container. It keeps the blades dry and works pretty well. Jody, you have a really nice shave den!
I'm still using a ziplock bag but with 300 more blades coming soon, I'll need to find some new storage. Last night I talked to my wife about getting a new cabinet for our bathroom. Since I'll be the one to put it up, I plan on getting my shaving stuff in there before she has a chance to take it over. We'll see how long that lasts.
To be rather honest, I hadn't given much thought to how I stored my blades; I simply kept them in a bowl alongside all my other shave gear. Maybe I should invest in something air tight to keep out the moisture.
I don't have pics right now, since I'm back in Kingston, at home I'm currently using a tupperware bin to toss them into, I use a small 4x4 one when traveling on course, etc. My father in law is looking to spend some time in his woodshop and make me a wall mount cabinet though to hold my razors, brushes and have a few blade drawers. I'm looking forward to designing it with him.
Does anyone feel that there would be blade degradation from sitting around in the bathroom? All of my packs are plastic sealed and I thought that would be adequate to keep out moisture. Although I do plan on getting some sort of container just to be neater.
I have a really cool blade bank that I will share with you all later today when I get my camera back....it is a military issued blade bank from the canadian forces i beleive...maby wrong though...cant wait to share...
okay, as promised, here is what I consider to be my very rare military blade bank. I consider it rare because I can't find any info on it whatsoever lol, here it is, any info would be great!!!! sorry about the pics, they are from my webcam, my other camera is lent out at the moment! In the first pic on the front of the bank it says: save for canadian war savings certificates, whatever that means??? on the back it reads: Gillette safety razor co. of canada, limited. thats the only markings on it, I bought it for 8 bucks at my local antique outlet! thanks for looking
