An excellent soap that lathers up readl well, just a tad on the pricey side, since I am use to spending $5 on a puck of soap. Smells real good but does not last to long on the skin and protects against even the worst of the shaves.
Well I bought a bowl and I must say I was taken away by the scent, it is very strong sweet smelling sandalwood. Reading the ingredients I found it also has vetiver in it. Well I enjoy it very much and after it is lathered the strength of the scent is reduced and even more enjoyable. I feel the price is a bit high but you are paying for the name and the wood bowl after-all.
I bought this as one of my first triple milled soaps, it has remained in my rotation and will continue to do so... I love the scent, the lather is also quite nice....but is not as moisturizing and lubricating as it could be...I usually follow it up with a nice ASB....C&E makes some very nice ASB's I like it and will buy it again
Top-notch, high-quality shaving soap!!! I got this shaving soap as a gift from my wife. At first I was not too impressed, however, it certainly has grown on me since using it. It lathers very well especially if you use a larger bowl rather than a small cup. I found it very easy to shave with and the smell was just fantastic. Lingers on for quite a bit. What I especially love about this shaving soap is that it must contain some ingredient that really opens up the pores and the hair just sticks right out since I found I got an especially closer shave than other shaving soaps. No doubt this is a top-notch, high-quality product. I also use a face scrub (exfoliator) before shaving and my does it ever help me get a better shave.
it's good, but..... I find the lather, stability of lather, and skincare are very good, however, I'm not crazy for the scent. Although my sister-in-law is working in a C&E store, they do not give discounts so often to their employees, so the prices are quite high. I doubt that I'd want this soap again.
This is a good soap. I gave up on triple milled soaps about a year ago, wasn't having any luck. Then I had our water tested. Short story- I use spring water for my lathers now and all is good. For me the best part of this soap is the price. We've got an outlet nearby--30% off retail everyday. The soap in a bowl will run you about $12.50, refills less than $6.00. No shipping charges. That's quite a bargain in the soap world.
I picked this up as my first shave soap. Very easy to use; the scent is very spicy, carrying sweeter notes of cinnamon in a very masculine balance. I picked it up half-price in the wooden bowl for $9; it might be worth checking retailers elsewhere to see if the sale extends to other areas.
I am really enjoying this soap. The scent of sandalwood is what made me purchase this one. It has a pleasing aroma, easy to lather, all in all a great soap. I did see several boxes at Mall of America in the C&E store, half price. Currently I have 5 pucks of this one, may be a really long time before I run out of it. For the price, this is a good bargain IMHO.
For me, the scent is a big winner. It's got a nice sandalwood fragrance, but it's not overpowering. My wife and kids love it. The lather and and lubrication are very good, but not exceptional. For the price, it's a good product and I'll keep using it.
Went from Aerosol and gels to Shave oil, then to badger brush and soap. started with cheap dime store (Williams mug soap) and appreciated the improvement. There are very few shopping options in KC, so next step was C&E. Soap was on sale, but even if not, it lasts and lasts so price is not that bad even though it is 2 or 3 times more than Williams. If it is lathered in a medium to large bowl or mug instead of in the hand it lathers great. I'm wanting to try others, but this works great for now.
Reading some of the earlier reviews cracks me up :happy102 You can pick a puck up for $8, or the bowl and soap for $18, if you're a platinum member take 20% off during the first week of the month. My Sandalwood soap is 6 months old now and I have more than half left, I use it 2-3 times a week... Of the current 3 scented soaps, the Sandalwood is the best imo, the scent is subtle, not over powering and remains with the puck. The Sandalwood is the most mildly scented of the C&E soaps, its scented just enough to be smelled while lathered and on your face. Honestly it doesn't resemble a high quality sandalwood scent, more of a leather blended/woodsy scent that is fresh and not sweet (Which I actually like). Comparing it to the other scents, the Sienna and Nomad smell great for a couple of shaves, then you get tired of being over-powered with the department store cologne-esque scents. Lather, all three soaps provide adequate glide and are slick, not very cushioning but the lather does make for close shaves and hasn't dried out my skin. It doesn't explode into gobs of lather without some effort, it takes work if you bowl lather, face lathering works better with these soaps. I will go so far as to say, that C&E soaps are probably the best department store soaps you can find, especially for the money.
I just bought the refill soap from lookfantastic.com, $8.24 shipping included it seems. Use the code LOOKPAY
