I never found the Old Type to be overly aggressive. I find them middle of the road and very comfortable users.

I think the long comb NEW has much more bite to it then the Old Type.

I would try and find some user grade razors to try out. It's been a while since I looked at razors, but neither were overly expensive in user grade. Once you use them for a while you will be able to know what you like.

    Dale,

Have you by any chance used the NEW short comb and comapred it to the long? Also, do you use a BRW handle on your NEW like you do your Old Type? I have the Old Type and NEW short and wonder about getting the long comb.

    Thanks.

I hate to feed your RAD ;), but if you're wanting something different AND something aggressive, maybe it's time to try a single-edge razor like the OC (open-comb) GEM Micromatic. Then you can try a couple of the other single-edge razors like my favorite, the GEM Damaskeene 1912-type :signs136:

I have used both short comb and long comb, but unfortunately it was long enough ago (about 16 months) that I don't really remember the specifics. I had a couple Bull Mastiff handles and a long comb NEW that I traded off. I love the way they look, but like the feel of the Improved handle with an Old Type head. I picked it up a year ago last October to celebrate a year off cigarettes. Sorry I can't be more help.

The open comb models are considered the most aggressive or should I say efficient. The new Deluxe is probably the most efficient IMO of the open combs...

panchango, thanks, I'm leaning toward the long comb NEW myself (boy, the sure made a lot of variants)

Yup. There is a long comb and short comb. Darned if I can tell the difference in the shave.

I know your not looking for a adjustable but, if your looking for aggressive the Red Tip blade gap is 26 thousandths. An adjustable (Fatboy,Slim ) set at 9 is 45 thousandths. More aggressive just so you know.

I find the most aggressive Gillette vintage razors in this order.

#1 The New Improved, mostly the heaviest like the long handled Big Fellow.
#2 The standard sized New Improved like the Bostonian, Richwood and New Standard.
#3 The heavier Old Types like the Bulldog followed by the Single and Double Ring.
#4 The smaller Old Type made during WW I like the Old Type Military khaki sets.
#5 The New Big Fellow Hybrid followed by the "Oxford", "Windsor" etc.
The New came in both short comb and long comb. Some wet shavers claim one is more aggressive then the other. I
    can't really tell the difference.
#6 The short handled New Improved Tuckaway.
#7 Any of the New De Luxe models like the Criterion and Norfolk/Tuckaway. These are great shavers.
#8 Any of the original ABC razors. Another great shave.
#9 The Red Tip Superspeed. One of my favorites and with the 1947 Superspeed and Ranger Tech maybe the most
aggressive of the Superspeed types. If i want a very smooth, non-aggressive razor I might use a '40's Superspeed.

I now prefer to shave with an open comb razor and generally rotate between an Old Type Bulldog, military Old Type and a new improved. I sometimes use a New Improved Big Fellow but am very careful not using much pressure. I generally only
    need two passes.

Sunflake, thanks, and yes, the slim is in my next list, everybody should try an adjustable razor, right? :D (I keep telling myself that I am anyway).
Len, thank you very much! , your list and simple explanation really help a lot! :eatdrink047:

so far, no luck with the ebay or BST, but no problems, I'm not in a hurry, and the hunt is really fun :happy108:
while I'm searching, I learn a lot about these razor too, and there's stil a lot to learn!! there're so many variation :innocent.
for now, I'm still going for the New style, really liking the new improved and New deluxe (see Len, I think now I know which is which :happy088: ).
