Monday's Shower and Shave Woke up to about 3 inches of snow this morning, here in Fort Smith AR. Our winter has been very mild till the last couple days. Three inches of snow here is a big event. Long hot shower with Razorock ginseng bar soap. Great lathering soap, good moisturizing too. Menthol Monday, choice was Viking Shave Cream. The Omega "Midget" was the brush chosen for lathering duty. The little guy excelled in his duties. Razor Choice was a Schick G-1 type, with a Schick injector blade. After four passes I had a great DFS. Post shave; polar water splash, Thayers' Witch Hazel, Kananga Water.

Well finally I had a good free day away from the tattoo shop to post a pic of my shave....I shunned my Arko stick for the day .....it killed me lol but it allowed me to achieve an excellent shave none the less....not BBS but definitely a DFS! I used my whole set up of Beechwood soap dishes and my Beechwood Conk brush....Love the look of a wood shave set....now all I need is a razor with a Beechwood handle (preferably a 34C as this has become my razor of choice) and I will be one happy camper! Pre-Shave: Face wash w/Dove Extra Fresh Bar Brush: Col. Conk 904 Soap: Col. Conk Amber Razor: Merkur 34C Blade: Crown Super Stainless (1) Post-Shave: Old Spice AS "Vintage Ivory Bottle" as I call it

Yo! Monday! Prep: hot water rinse, hot washing cloth Music: Arno (lunatic Belgian singer), album: Charles Ernest (contains a quite different interpretation of the Rolling Stones' "Mother's Little Helper" took me some time -months- before I recognised it!) Brush: WS badger / boar Soap: TSD Signature, mug lathered Razor: Gillette Old Style Blade: brandless, rehoned / stropped in Allegro mod L, 3rd shave 3pass shave + touch-up Nice and easy DFS+. Much betther lathering than yesterday (or is it then yesterday? Keep forgetting). Have a great week y'all!
It is so nice to get back to straights after that 'shave-and-run' days. I took my time learning honing technique this weekend and it really pays off. My results are much more consistent now, but when a razor passes HHT it losts a major part of that 'Wow, I did it!'. And I really like how it goes- to shave with a freshly honed and stropped razor . 8/8 W&B restored by Glen (right from Naniwa and strop) Vie-Long horsehair brush (I'll miss it when it finally sheds out!) Gada Cool Mint SC Nivea AS splash One of the most comfortable shaves I ever had. DFS!
Only 2 things holds me of coverting to straights. First is time factor - I cannot shave fast with the straight for now. Maybe I'll improve my timing with more practice and be able to perform quick 2 passes shaves. I have a tough stubble so it takes time to soften it. Second is traveling - I travel by my work a lot, so DE is the best choice for trips. Anyway, I love my straights! As the middle of the road solution I use OCMM - it gives me the feeling similar to straight shave but with speed and safety of DE
I know exactly where you are coming from. I get great shaves from straights and they are improving as time goes on. However with a good blade and good DE ....... I could get as good a shave or better quicker. If I use a straight I tend to shave in the evenings or on days off so that I have time. However....I enjoy the straight experience, and to be honest.....I feel short changed with a quick shave,,,,no matter how good.. At the moment my 2 pass straight shaves are exclusively with the Feather/Kai systems. Their blades are just so consistently sharp.
