I thought I would post some pictures of this ebay razor, the only markings are the King Gillette signature on the head and cap. The Ser# A386011 (1908) The head is scratched up, other then that it cleaned up nice
oooh! Very nice! Nice clean up! Report back about the shave (and remember to say what blade you used!) :happy088
That could be, no one seems to have seen one like this before. Achim wants pictures of it to put on his web site I used it this morning with a Gillette 7o clock in the green box, I got a great shave. I like the Gillette open combs, however I mostly use straight razors.
I found one like it in the Waits Safety Razor Compendium. It says that Gillette started using the diamond trade mark in 1908 and that only a few razors had the King C. Gillette signature only
I now have a second Signature Single Ring with Ser# A375582. Only the cap has the King Gillette Signature, there are no markings on the head of the razor. This Signature Single Ring is the only one out of the 7 that have been identified on a different forum not to have the signature on the head as well. It could be a mis-match of parts or made this way. The razor on the right is my new find.
I've been trying to find 1 and here you are with 2 now. Congrats! Or the opposite could be possible... an overzealous employee stamped the name on the guard too on the first one you got and shouldn't have. Gillette did so many weird things in the early days so anything is possible.
Definitely, congratulations! Wow! I am wondering now what is more rare? a Gillette Signature Single Ring or the man who finds 2 of them:signs002 So um...what calibration is your razor magnet set on? :laugh042 Excellent! :happy088
I shaved with one of my King Gillette's today, I thought I would bring back this old thread and ask if anyone else has since found one.
Mine is one of the 8 that we already know about, Mike. It is still one of the treasures in my collection. The mystery of the Signature Single Rings continues......
