Tuesday, 05/22/2012 SHOWER AND SHAVE Hot shower is part of my morning ritual, in hopes that stiffness will undo. While showering the Omega "48" was on deck warming up. Tuesday, is MWF tradition, that was the soap choice for today. Facial wash and prep with Proraso Glycerin. The Omega "48", lathered MWF very nicely. Day three for the Gold Tech and 7o'clock blue battery. This I find is a good razor and blade combo. I'm learning that are some blades that perform better in certain razors. Three passes delivered a home run of a DFS. the shave dare I say was a BBS. After a great shave RazoRock alum seals the deal, Fitness balm completes a great shave Everyone have a great day!!

Good morning from 1º22´ North (and 103º48´ East, as a matter of accuracy). My Wednesday shave ritual was real Zen to me today. After an intense hour of workouts at the gym, I enjoyed a very quiet and peaceful 10 minutes at the Sauna before heading to the ‘wet area’ for a shower and the shave. And I really slowed down and took my time. Nice! The shave set-up consisted of the following tools of the trade: Musgo Real pre-shave oil Calani Lavender shave soap Mühle Travel shave brush in Nickel with Silver Tip Fibre ’60 British Gillette Flare Tip Rocket Feather blade (2nd shave) Musgo Real Classic after shave My jaw lines have felt a bit sensitive those past days, maybe it was due to me just using the recently re-ordered Feather AS without really paying attention to technique and properly reacquainting myself with the razor, maybe it was for some other reason, who knows? Whichever the reason, the shaves were just ok the last few days but not really up to my expectations. So I decided to remedy this today. Therefore, after the shower, I lathered up with the Calani, taking my time to swirl the brush over the to-be-shaved facial areas and left the stubble to soak for a good 3-4 minutes. After which I rinsed the soap off again (I know, this could and will most likely be considered wasting perfectly good lather. But please forgive me as I had my reasons) Following this admittedly sacrilegious act, I applied some of the Musgo pre shave and lathered back up on top of that. Then, I shaved - 2 nice and slow passes, the 1st one with and the 2nd one across the grain. A light touch! (It is amazing that, even after several years of proper shaving, I still have to remind myself of this undisputable fact, especially when picking up a lighter razor, and believe me, the British Rocket is light compared to the Feather AS I’ve been using for a week nor or so..) Having said that and kept the focus as well as a steady hand, I rinsed off, first with warm then with cold water. Today I did not dry my face with gentle taps of the towel as is usually my custom but simply left the face to dry in the ambient climate while I was cleaning up the gear and getting dressed. A splash of Musgo Real Class AS after that waiting period concluded this highly enjoyable shave and I felt ready to face the day and the load of work awaiting me. That’s my story today. What’s yours? Whichever it is going to be, I wish you a good one and a splendid day ahead!
Tom, when I first used the Bolzano blade, I didn’t like it either. Not at all, in fact. I had bought a pack of 5 for testing in various razors and did so in a Mühle R89, an EJ (same head), a Tech and a ‘Black Beauty’ Super Adjustable Gillette. I just did not get warm with the blade. I stayed away from it for over a year. Then, about 6 months back, I was going through an ‘open comb’ phase and tried a few with the Merkur 11C quickly becoming my favourite. A friend of mine with whom I share a lot of likes and dislikes in regards to razors, blades and soaps recommended me to give the Bolzano a try in the OC, which I did. Man, it blew me away, the shave was so much better from what I had experienced before. Some people I know use the Bolzano in the 37C Slant and they swear by it. It just reinforced my belief that some blades are simply doing better in some razors than in others and, although this might not be the case for everyone, it still allows for a glimmer of hope. Maybe you should not totally disregard the Bolzano just yet, give it a try in a different razor. You never know, it might just surprise you.

Wednesday: Turkish Horsehair Super Speed/new Rapira Arko Ice Mint SC 444 AS Balsam/Osage Rub AS Splash Obsession for Men EDT This Turkish horsehair brush not only whips up terrific lather, it also gives a very pleasant massage all over my face and neck. The Arko Ice Mint cream is awesome - I still cannot believe how cooling it is. The 444 balsam and the Osage Rub are a winning menthol combination. :2thumbs:

Wednesday: Gillette New Long Comb Voskhod Omega Pro D'men Sensitive Aqua Velva Afta Original Jovan Musk After Shave/Cologne I received this razor in a trade over a year ago and tried it once and deemed it too aggressive compared to my EJ89L. I put it in the cabinet and forgot about it, and yesterday stumbled onto it and decided to give it a second try. I'm so glad I didn't get rid of it because it just delivered a splendid shave for me. I've become a 1 and done pass shaver and this with the Voskhod loaded into it delivered a shave closer than I get with my straight with 1 pass, just beautiful. I would tell the newbies to hold onto to something if it doesn't work out for you at this time because you just don't know, it might be the best thing for you down the road when your technique develops more. Hopefully it'll continue giving me results like today.

I've had that happen to me before too. Two days ago I had 3 new products come in and I had to try them all by test lathering on my face, plus a 4th product I actually used to shave with. I think individually it would have been fine, but all together, my face was feeling it. Last night I ended up having to use a mild cream rather than a new product, just to make sure my face would calm down.
May 22th Music:Fela Kuti Wash: Nivea Face Wash Prep Lather: Dalen D'Men - Sensitive Razor: Merkur 38M Blade: Iridium Super (1) Brush: Semogue 1305 Soap/Cream: T&H Ultimate Comfort SC Post: 5Savages AS (witch hazel, rum, Tabac cologne) AS: Nivea Sensitive BBS- Even though I received 6 new cream and soaps in the last two days, I needed to assure myself of a calm shave so I opted to use my sample of T&H Ultimate Comfort. Great stuff! This seems to outperform all other T&H cream samples I've tried. Gobs and gobs of awesome, slick lather! The iridium blade was a PIF from awake2shave (Jeff) and my first time using one. It's hard to judge after just one shave, but my first impression is that it's on par with my top blade, the Voskhod. I normally toss a blade after 3 shaves but since I just have this one, I'll be riding it out as long as possible. All this was done while listening to the fantastic Afro-beat sounds of Fela Kuti.
