This beautiful set recently arrived to me and I am thrilled to share it with my TSD family... 1920 Old Type Aristocrat single ring razor, serial number M317822, silver plated, partnered with "French ivory", aka "faux ivory", case and two "French ivory", aka "faux ivory", side-load blade boxes, officially called the Gillette Aristocrat - not to be confused with the similar looking Aristocrat set that has the flared/bell knob. Includes all 12 original blades with serial # 003 (means they were made the 3rd week of 1920) on each one and original "blades instruction" ticket. Everything is in near mint condition - no cracks in the handle, no bent or chipped or broken teeth. No soap, gunk or anything else inside the knob or inside the handle. I dare say this set has never been used.
"Thanks for the pictures and history, Jody. Until recently, I thought that only Bell End razors came in these boxes and now I am seeing a lot of single rings in them.
Great catch Jody! I have only seen a handful of those up for grabs. Thanks for always sharing your finds with us...I think its great we get to see rare Gillettes up close, while finding out a little bit about them.
Awesome! What a find. My guess is that this will not be one that makes its way into your shaving rotation!
It appeared on the cardboard box the case originally came in. Many of the very old sets didn't have the name on the cases.
