As a follow up to the first question, I offer this...

What was the first non-cartridge, non-electric, non-disposable razor you ever used?

    First SE?
    First DE?
    First SR?

    Bonus for pictures.

My first ever non-cartridge razor was my 38M (like the 38C, but with a matte finish on the handle). The first time I used it was on Christmas of last year. Boy does that blood sure show up clearly against the white backdrop of lather! Since then, thankfully, I've gotten much better.

My first SE was a Schick Injector. G8 I believe. I've only put one blade through that so far.

I haven't used a straight yet, but I hope to next year.

    The 38M and the G8:

My first non-cartridge, non-electric razor I ever used was a yellow Bic disposable. I shaved off a good layer of skin from my lip and got blood all over the bathroom. That was also when I learned that razors had sharp blades in them. It was important life lesson about sharp objects that I learned at the early age of two, and probably contributed to my lack of interest in the spinny thing under the lawnmower in later years.

First DE: sixties era Gillette Super Speed
First SE: see post above /First real shave with a SE: Schick type C repeating razor
    Straight: Olean Wedge

    Another fun topic!

    1st DE: Feather "popular" razor.

1st SE: Open Comb Micromatic. Funny story- I ignored all cautions and warnings before taking out the o.c.m.m. for a spin. I chose to do this just before I had to go to work and preach to 100+ people. I arrived at work, a friend looked at my face and asked, "What did you do to yourself?" So take care with an o.c.m.m. They're good razors, but they'll own you if you aren't careful.

Have not used a straight. Not very interested in trying.

My first venture into wet shaving was using a Gillette Super Speed, forgot what blade I used. Today I primarily use DE, occasionally a SE, no desire to try a straight.

My first DE was with a Gillette Blue Tip...I remember throwing it after trying to use it because it cut my face up really bad (I still thought pressure was a good thing in shaving). I think it was with a Merkur blade too(cringe)!

My first SE was a GEM feather weight. I got it with a pack of CVS blades from a PIF on the B&B. I hated that razor! I couldn't get a smooth shave from it. Needless to say I stayed with DEs for a while as I had a 1940s rocket and I just got my Muhle R106.

As for straights, I was just given a Durham Duplex Barber razor. It isn't a true straight, but they aren't allowed in my house (little kids, etc). I hope to have it up and running at the end of the summer, it needs some restoration done.

Those were my first steps away from the electric (I had given up on cartridges already before going to the DE).

A butterfly-opening COMOY DE Razor with a COMOY Badger brush. The razor is too rusted to even open or close now so I replaced it with a Merkur 34C, but the brush still works okay! Although I prefer my Shavemac Silvertip...!

My first non-cartridge razor and also first SR was a Dovo Prima Silver Steel with Ebony scales.
My first SE razor was a Gem Junior in Gold.
My first DE razor was a Mergress. I came to DEs after having gotten to know Straights and SEs.

My first DE was a generic "new" razor purchased from classic shaving I didn't like it but in hind sight it may have been the blades I have since passed it on to some one else.

My first SE was a gem razor that I got from the box pass here last year and I love it

My first straight is a double duck that I got from a PIF on another forum I haven't used it yet because I am scared to death I am going to hack up my face seriously

Yeah, it was quite of a learning curve and still have not fully mastered it as I would want to but good enough for a weekend shave (with plenty of time at hand). Straights were actually my motivation to really get into wet shaving in the first place and I added on the SEs and the DEs as I needed a les time consuming method for the work day mornings.
