I didnt really know how to title it but i was wondering how do people go about shaving with their de and keeping a neat beard and moustache. I'm one of those young cats who likes to keep a presentable beard and moustache :/ I generally used to shave with either my schick quattro or my remmington electric razor most of my facial areas and then when it comes to trimming close to the beard i would use a barbers liner. Is their a way to shave and line up your beard with a de, in my case i keep my beard is really thick and coarse (usually kept at about 2 months of growth) or should i just stick with shaving with the de first then using the other liner to straighten the lines and clean up the areas.
I've found that it's much easier to shave around the goatee and moustache with a DE than it was with the cartridge razors. having only one blade and a narrow edge leads to precise lines. Don't try to trim with just the edge of the blade, turn the razor so the edge is facing away from what you are edging. Use short strokes. If that description is confusing, think of this example- if you are lining the beard on your chin you want shave in the direction of your ear.
I'm in a similar boat Drew- young cat that keeps a presentable beard and moustache. PLANofMAN's advice is sound (as always). Could you be a bit more specific on what issues you're having in terms of struggling with the DE for neatness? I do my touchups/lining with a DE and have no real issues once I started using short strokes.
I love using a DE for touching up around the goat. I usually Shave with a straight. When I am in a hurry the DE is great for getting around the goat perfectly. I think it works easier then a cart but it has been years since I have touched a cart.
I use a square point straight as much as possible, however DE's also do a decent job (Far better at least than cartridges ever could for me)
I keep a handlebar 'stache and have no problems getting around it with a DE. Knowing where the blade is is like knowing where your tires are while driving a car - after a while you get a feel for it and you know right where that cutting edge is all the time. A little practice and you'll be keeping that beard and 'stache looking neat and stylish!
I now mainly use straight razors so the outside line isn't a problem. Around the lips I use a Schick injector razor . Seems to fit perfectly. ( they are now called 'Circle Beards'. The new generic term for any mustache and goatee).
thanks for all the feedback..i think swarden got the best analogy advice for me...i just gotta practice this art just like how im practicing to ride my motorcycle haha
I use an injector blade like a straight razor to keep the beard shaped on my cheeks and to shave between my upper lip and mustache. I've been doing it this way for years and years..
You hold the blade in your fingers or loaded in an injector razor? Your post is a little unclear on that point.
I have complete messed up my goatee on many occasion. On Tuesday I messed it up so bad that I shaved it all down except the "soul patch". Thankfully my facial hair grows fast, I am already starting to resemble my old self. Lesson learned for me: Shave with glasses on.
I am a goat man as well. However this morning I somehow ended up with the lower right of my goat almost a good 1/4 to 1/3 of an in closer in than the left!! Didnt notice until I was in the bathroom at work. will have to deal with that when i get home tonight.
I hold it in my fingers, between my thumb and middle finger with the index finger on the spine. Sorry for not being clear.
