Just got into DE shaving and I'm on my third shave. I wanted to know people's opinions on Merkur razor blades. They came with my razor and some times they pull. Is this normal? I have used the same blade twice and then changed it. So I'm on my second blade. I ordered a sample pack from amazon so I'll try those.
Any blades have the potential to not agree with your face, some people hate Merkur, others like myself can get decent shaves out of them. Are they worth the price? IMO, nope.
Hi! Welcome to the Den. Glad you're here. You'll have to excuse me as I will abstain from the vote. Yes, they are a good blade for some folks. No, they are not a good blade for me.
If you want to know how I feel about blades, check out the link and go to the first link in that thread. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/de-blade-challenge-ii.28223/ Saves me from typing. Oh and by the way ... Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
There have been very few razors that work well (for me) with Merkur blades. and each of those razors are ones I can feed any kind of blade into and expect a great shave. For some reason, Merkurs feel like a used up blade straight out of the package. I have been known to say that I would rather shave with a flattened tin can that's been sharpened on one edge than a Merkur blade. I've mellowed some since then, and no longer hold that opinon. I think it's an unfair comparison and might give tin cans a bad reputation. You should try Astras or Volkshod blades (or a sampler). Astras are available on Amazon, usually for under $10 per hundred and Volkshod are available in The Shave Den Store for $12.
Salutations, Mrkrys! I've yet to try Merkur blades, but I tend to hear more negative than positive in discussions concerning them. You never know, though. You just never know. Some people like Bluebird blades...
Welcome to the Den! I have not tried them. So far, I have only used Astra SP and Shark SC. Both do fine for me. I get about 1-2 more shaves out of the Sharks, but the Astras are nearly half the price.
Welcome to the Den! I think you'll find the general consensus (on this and other boards) is that Merkur blades are best for box cutters, not shaving. But, some do like them. Blades can be very YMMV.
...to The Shave Den family! Be sure to stop by The Shave Den "Master Sticky" thread to familiarize yourself with the rules and different areas of The Shave Den! On a personal note, Merkur blades are made in the armpits of hell. Trash 'em and get you something better.
Welcome to the family! The Shave Den is sort of a great big family of brothers and sisters who are always willing to give you a hand and helpful advice. Or sometimes just cut up with you. Glad to have you with us. The Merkur blades don't agree with my face, but you can save them to send them off to those whose face agrees with them. Smott, I'm surprised you mentioned Blue Birds!
To The Shave Den The sample pack is definately the way to go. You'll probably find a couple of blades you like. Then you can keep the rest to try if you ever get a different razor. Sometimes blades you dislike will work for you with another razor. I know for me I love BlueBirds, but hate Derby and the're made in the same place so go figure.
Merkur blades hate my face. I really like my Personna Lab Blue (USA made.) That seems to be the only blade that works for me now. Astra's might work now I have more experience as Gillette Super Stainless/Super Platinum, Voskhod's did alright, and Derby's blew. However, my face is different than yours and all those blades might work perfect... Only way to know is to try them. And since they're so cheap, you can try all of them and give away the ones you don't like or recycle. By the way: WELCOME BUDDY!
to the DEN Can't help with the blade question since I have never used the Merkur blades. Good luck with what ever you choose. Just remember to try several blades and find the right blade that works with your razor on your face.
Dude I love them, I have 10 left and might have to get a surplus of them. The Israeli ones are decent for me too. I was beginning to think I wasn't going to have an irritation free shave til I got my hand on these blades.
