Thanks, I'm glad that your enjoying it. The one you have and a blue handled 28mm 2 band that I PIF'd to a friend's son are still the best brushes I've made. One of these days I'll have to try and duplicate them. Right now, I'm playing around with some Grade A Silver Tip knots.
Very early morning today. Nice shave. Have a good one.

    10.06.2012 - EXPERIMENTAL THURSDAY

    MODIFIED COLD WATER SHAVE

    Prep: Hot shower/Jojoba Oil
    Razor: 1940's Gillette Tech
    Blade: Drugstore Personna USA
    Brush: Body Shop Synthetic
    Cream: KMF Cool Mint
Post: Ice water rinse. Homemade splash and balm

Prior to showering, I filled my bowl with ICE water along with the brush. After the shower I splashed my face with ICE water. Lathered with ICE water. I rinsed razor and splashed face with ICE water between passes.

Observations: The lather seemed more dense and I used a bit more cream than usual. The audible slicing of the hair is MUCH more noticeable. I had zero additional pulling or tugging. My razor and blade showed less soap residue. The overall shave was neither better or worse than my normal routine. I sometimes have delayed onset irritation so I will need to revisit this post later tonight regarding that facet.

Opinions: The ICE water could initially lead to less visible irritation because of less surface blood flow. I say initially because I THINK once the superficial blood flow returns to normal your mistakes will show. I could see "Mentha-holics" really loving the ICE water splashes. I THINK the denseness of lather is simply a result of the relationship between temperature and volume. MAYBE a thin lathering soap could benefit from the ICE technique.

Edits: I would put my post shave items in the ICE prior to showering. I would also leave my lathering bowl in an ICE bath while shaving.

Future: I think I will go this route again soon. Maybe even brave an absence of the hot shower...maybe. I could definitely see myself incorporating the cold water splashes between passes into my summer routine.

    Another day, another shave...

    TSD preshave balm
    4/8 Rebell from herzi
    Vie-Long horsehair brush
    Ceramic bowl
    Valobra Menthol soap
    Cold water splash
    Tet-a-tet ASB

Excellent shave, a solid DFS! Two ideas - switching between 2 very different razors and choosing random shaving 'software' each time works together just nice.

    Good morning.

My last adjustable shave of this week went as follows:

    Musgo Real pre-shave oil
    Calani Cadre Noir shave soap
Mühle Basic Nr. 02 shave brush, Silver Tip Fibre
Schick Injector M1 Adjustable (set to 5)
Schick Custom Golden Swedish Steel Injector blade (new)
    Bloc Osma Alum
    Musgo Real Classic after shave

I am quite disappointed by these Schick Custom Injector blades (Vintage ones); this was the second time I am using one of the blades and they are quite rough, not comparable to the modern-day Personna PFTE-coated ones I usually use… Anyhow, last time I’ve used them, I have a few other vintage NOS blades I haven’t used yet, these are from Personna. Will give them a try too and if similar to this Schick Custom, I guess I’ll be donating them at some point…

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend!

That Robart Mond Extra is one fine razor...everyone I ever bid on I lost. One day, one day :D

His pricing is outstanding and just such a nice guy. This makes my 5th razor from him, although I regretfully had sold two of my favorites to finance a Streamline that I ended up not enjoying at all. Live and learn. I now refuse to sell anything I like trying to find the perfect razor.

    Outstanding DFS++

These Punktal blades are thin! Only 0.06 mm in stead of the usual 0.08 mm. I've got a few of them. I'll be using this blade for the next week to try out Ryans (PlanOfMan) 5 Second Sharpener. So far only oustanding shaves. :)

    Adjustable Week
Mon. Slim with Perma-Sharp Super D1 and Arko Stick. Set it on #6 for 3 passes. BBS... couple red marks on my neck...After Shave burned...BBS was close and smooth.

Tue. Yesterdays BBS was so close I was surprised my whiskers are back and thick, waiting for this morn.'s shave...Slim, Perma-Sharp Super D2 and Arko Stick...3 passes, 9/9/6...Another BBS...a little tender around throat area...This razor's so heavy, it teaches one pretty quick the meaning of 'negative pressure'...If I held near the TTO knob and let the full weight of the razor rest on my face it would be too much...So I hold in the center and use little finger to lift head a touch...BBS comes pretty easy, just need to be awake and pay attention to detail.

Wed. Needed shave but no time...

Thurs. REALLY ready for shave. Decided to compare Senator with Perma-Sharp Super D3 and Arko Stick...Whiskers very long and Senator never clogs...Best and easiest shave this week...Senator is amazing...2 pass BBS...

Fri. Need to be fair, so put Schick Hydro-magic into the shave-off....so easy, I could have shaved blind folded with my right hand tied behind my back...lol....2 pass DFS+ touch-up pass for BBS...absolutly no irritation...After Shave felt like cool water...;)
