Shave of the Day (SOTD) Friday September 28, 2012 Prep: Brush soaking in warm water, face wash with Noxzema Triple Clean, tepid shower Razor: Feather AS-D1 Blade: Feather New Hi-Stainless Teflon Coated (2) Brush: Semogue SOC Cherrywood Boar Soap: Lea Mentholated AS: British Sterling Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash Of Aftershave TGIF everyone!!! Day number two with the Feather. So before I talk about today's shave I must mention how my beard was yesterday. Within three hours after my shave I had as much stubble that I normally would by the time I would leave the office. This morning I felt like I had a good 36 hours of growth on my face. I know that there is a huge learning curve to find that perfect blade angle with this razor, so I am not throwing in the towel anytime soon. I like both spectrum's of the razor world, my two favorite razors could not be further apart, a Cadet OC and a Gillette Tech. The Feather AS-D1 makes the Tech feel like a Fatboy set to 9 in comparison Although I can achieve what feels like a BBS on my face with three passes, the area from my jawline down requires a lot of work. I spent a good 25 minutes this morning on buffing alone. Anyway you slice it, that is a lot of work. I may have to use this razor on weekends only, because to achieve a shave that I find respectable it takes more than double my normal routine time. I really want to like the Feather, as I have yet to encounter a razor with a build quality that is so good. Ultimately though it all boils down to the shave. I need to be able to achieve a great shave within a normal amount of time. I don't need something pretty to look at, I need something that gives me what I except out of my tool of choice for that morning.
Sept 27 Face Wash: Nivea Moisturizing Face Wash Pre-Shave Lather: La Toja Shave Stick Pre-Shave Oil: T&H Ultimate Comfort Pre-Shave Oil Shave Lather: eShave White Tea SC Razor: Gillette Old Type Blade: Voskhod (2) Brush: Vulfix 660S Medium Post: Witch Hazel/Rum/Aloe/Glycern mixture followed by TBS Kistna ASB The owner of the company is a bit wacko, but the eShave cream is incredible stuff! A little goes a long way in creating plenty of super slick lather. I will always have eShave cream in my den. I found one problem with the Voskhod blade. It shaves so smooth that it's almost not worth shaving the next day. This was the first time using it in the Old Type and while I could feel the blade more, the result was the same...BBS!
Friday morning, September 28, 2012 Schick E2 Injector razor w/ Schick blade (8) Semogue 1305 boar bristle brush, MWF shaving soap w/ warm water lather, finish with cold water rinse for a DFS!
I have to admit that today my face is beginning to feel raw. I just can't stop rubbing it, it has to be at least sixty years since it was this smooth. It seems that today the sun, the moon and the stars all aligned (and it is a payday Friday on top of all that). I know everyone says so but after only a few weeks of trying DE shaving and my skin in general looks much better. When I started is I looked old and tired and an old sixty-six, now I could easily pass as a young sixty-five. No really when I looked in the mirror this morning I really did have to ask who is that looking out at me? It was a kind of great feeling. Today the routine was: Pre-shave: warm water wash with a Neutragina(sp) face wash Proraso preshave cream (white) over still damp face which sat for about five minutes before lathering Shave soap: Cella Brush: VDH Razor: Feather (popular) Blade: Feather Shave Pattern: WTG, ATG, XTG After shave: warm then cool water rinse followed by an additional lite application of the Proraso then a splash of Old Spice The entire shave felt good! And best of all it was fun!!
Friday: soak brush/Thater 4292/6 2 band,fan/Schwarzweisskeramik XL Scuttle hot shower Proraso PrePost cream Tabac ss Pils 101NE/Super Iridium (4) warm water rinse Monster Block Alum warm water rinse Thayer's Medicated Superhazel mixed with 2 drops M-Bomb Tabac splash Yesterday's shave was so good I hit it again.Another wonderful 2 pass face,1 pass head some dome touch-up for BBS all around.I could easily use the Iridium for another face and head shave but I'm throwing the towel in after 4 shaves.I still couldn't tell you if I like the new Polsilver SI or the olde SI.They seem to me to be the same blade,I get the same results from both.I will say that I like both better than the olde Polsilver, not by much, but I find Polsilvers can be a lil picky on which razor it likes.

Merkur 34C w/ Astra SP Omega Boar TOBS Avacado w/ 3 drops of M-Bomb Nivea Cool Kick ASB I really don't care for the scent of the Avacado but I'm all sick and stuffy so I figured I'd break it out. I didn't notice a ton of cooling from the M-Bomb but I only did 3 small drops and I used cold water to shave anyway. When I rinsed I could feel a bit of chill. It was my first time trying the bomb but I think after some playing around I'll find what works for me.
Friday Prep: Hot shower, AoS pre-shave oil CD: Blues Masters, Vol. IV Coffee: Home roasted, fresh ground Kenyan AA, BLACK Soap: Cyril Salter + 3 drops M Bomb Brush: Kriss Kross with original knot Razor: Merkur 34C set in red mallee burl handle Blade: 7a.m. Plus, day 5, 3 passes Post: Cold water rinse, ice water splash, Osage Rub, Pinaud Clubman 'Stache Wax: Steve's Own Love the 34C. Almost always rewarded with a great shave, regardless of the blade I use.
5/8 FWE Special TOBS Avocado homemade brush AV Musk Very close shave this morning but not what I would call smooth, a little rough actually. The TOBS Avocado is usually a very good cream for me, I think I might have had the lather a little to thin. At any rate, I'm not willing to blame anything but me for the shave quality. There's always tomorrow, but it's easier to try and keep your face in shape than try and play catch up after a bad shave. Have a good one. photo hosting
Tuesday - Friday Mornings Same set-up each day, same results ... Pre (Eucerin Moisturizing cream, warm shower) Omega 10083 Pro boar MWF Merkur 23c w/ Kai Stainless Post (Cetaphil Gentle cleanser, cold water rinse) Master Bay Rum Solid two pass DFS! Perfectly content! If this was the only set-up available to me, it's been no problem. Have a great weekend!
Sorry! I'll have to pick some up for next time! Now I'm just a bit worried about tomorrow's shave...Weekends = shavette practice, and I plan on watching Iron Man 2 tonight.
Prep - Hot Towel, Simpson's Shave Cream Razor - Weber ARC Blade - Astra S/P Brush – 'Mama Chub' (Chubby 2 Two Band) Soap - Marlborough Cold Rinse/ Witch Hazel/ Musgo Real I haven't shaved since last Sunday, and having just come home from holiday I didn't want to whip out the 'Wheatfield', so 'Mama Chub' and the Marlborough laid down the base for a super smooth, super clean shave with the Weber. Damn I feel great ;-)
Friday at last! Friday 29 September Typical start to the day a hot shower , today's shower was great Prairie Creations pre-shve soap does an excellent job in prepping the face. Reached into the back of the closet pull out Pre`de Provence for today's soap. LuJin badger whipped up a frenzy of lather. Day three for the duo of Gillette old style and Polsliver Finished up with a cold splashes, alum, Colonia Road Opener Everyone have a great weekend.
Victoria boar brush, soaking in hot water hot shower Palmolive shave stick, mug lathered Shavette loaded with a new Astra blade cold water rinse alum block (actually bought as a roll on crystal but works for shaveing just as well ) anoher cold water wash and a splash of Old Spice original (love the burn, the cooling and the scent ) The new brush is breaking in, and is a little stiff still, but it lathered nicely. The shavette is getting better and better as i get a hang on the technique, and the Astra is performing great in it. The closest shave i ever had from two WTG passes. no nicks, no cuts just one weeper but alum got the thing under control
