So there ya go. I've been busted. Asleep on the job. Done plumb forgot to get the new Theme Week going.

As the leaves have started to fall in some areas (I love this time of year!), folks will be pulling the rakes out of the shed or up from the basement to deal with the fallen leaves. What better time for us shavers to pull our our "rakes", the Open Comb razor, and pay tribute to it by dealing with those whiskers, et al.

Have fun! Tell us about your razor and your shave. Better yet, show us some pics!

Today I loaded up my Gillette Old Type with an ASR Platinum Chrome and was rewarded with a darn fine shave.

Pre: hot towel soak, Shave Secret pre-shave oil

Shave: Vulfix Sandlewood cream, Vulfix super badger brush (2234), FaTip grande razor, Astra SP blade [day 2]

Post: hot water rinse, cold water rinse, and Nivea shave balm

3 pass shave, a few very minor weepers, BBS overall with a couple of small DFS places.

Tomorrow I have to hit the ground running so I thought I would get a close shave tonight so I could skip shaving in the morning. I don't know if this will be a normal practice now, but it could be.

    3. Fatip Piccolo - Open Comb - Chrome.
    4. GEM Micromatic SE (1929) - Open Comb - Chrome.
    5. Mühle R101 - Open Tooth Comb - Black and chrome (R41)

No worries, Steve, as you can tell, we came prepared ;).

I intend on dedicating this week to my Rotbart Mond - Extra razor
    [IMG]

The shaves of the first 2 days of this Theme week were identical in set-up:

    Calani Dubai shave soap
    Semogue #1305 shave brush
Rotbart Mond - Extra open comb razor
    Rotbart “Extra Dünn” razor blade
    Bloc Osma alum
    Musgo Real Classic after shave

Moving forward, there might be a variation in the shave soap and shave brush used and I might throw in a drop or two of pre-shave oil. Other than that, I do not foresee any changes unless the blade gives out on me and I have to load a fresh one.

    Wednesday

Yep, same ASR blade, only today it went into my Grafco, a re-branded Merkur.
Who ever said open comb razors are more aggressive than a straight bar razor has never tried a Grafco - very mild, almost too mild for my liking.
Oh, well. Overall not a bad shave today.

    Wednesday:

    FaTip Piccolo/Red IP (1)
I've been neglecting the Piccolo since I put my chrome FaTip head on the UFO Godzilla handle,I also neglected to use a Red IP in the Piccolo.Nice combo, great face and head shave, pretty darn smooth as well.I was using Astra SP's in the Piccolo but I think the Red IP is overall a better performer in this razor.

I broke out my Old Type last night. I've said it's my second favorite razor, behind the 38M that my wife bought for me to start me on this DE adventure, but if I'm honest with myself, I have to admit that it is my favorite. Every time I use it I have to wonder why they ever bothers to make any changes to it. To me, it's just about perfect. It leaves my SuperSpeed and Techs in the dust.

Last night's shave was with DR Harris, as it will be tonight and tomorrow night. This is my first time experiencing any DRH soaps and my initial impressions are favorable.

My Open Comb shave today was still being performed by the Rotbart combo, which works out quite well:

Martin de Candre, scented shave soap
Mühle Basic Nr. 02 shave brush, Silver Tip Fibre
Rotbart Mond – Extra open comb razor
    Rotbart ‘Extra Dünn’ blade (1.)
    Block Osma alum
    Musgo Real Classic after shave

I have decided that this razor is a keeper and that it deserves a new shiny coat. So I have sent off a message to RE (Reliable Electroplating), as quite a few fellow TSDians have recommended me their services several times now, gotta try them out (and my next razor needing a replate will go to West Coast). And although I do like how some vintage razors look in Rhodium, I think I will have the Rotbart replated in bright Nickel. Will take some additional detailled pre- and then of course post-replating pictures and share with all of you.

    My OC shave:
Williams mug soap (best in the world)
Razor that a good friend made for my 40th (this year)
Boar brush again made by the same friend
Vintage gillette blues blades from my stash

    Thursday:
Today was the Joris 1912T/Perma-Sharp Super (3) combo,I wasn't sure I liked the Permas in this razor, but my third shave was fantastic. The Perma-Sharp makes the Joris a lil more aggressive,a trait I dont notice in other razors. So far my top 3 in the Joris has been 1.Gillette 7 O'Clock Black / 2.Red IP/ 3.Polsilver/Astra SP gets a honorable mention as it's a good performer in the Joris.

Same shave for the last two days. Used the same Voskhod, Vulfix 404, and Superior 70, but changed the shaving cream. Yesterday was CTAPT and today was Tet-a-Tet. It may be time for a fresh blade tomorrow.
