I just went and picked up my new iKon 2PB from my PO Box...now the wait is on! I may just have to shave early today! I must say this razor is quite a substantial Beast. The build quality looks great and I really like the design, let's hope it shaves as good as it looks.
Well the shave last night wasn't so great. I couldn't seem to get the blade square in the head of the razor and there was more exposure on the closed comb side than the open comb side. So after some emails with iKon they asked me to send it in for a replacement. The response was fast, helpful, and polite. I am very impressed with customer service so far. I hope my replacement razor gets here soon!
Well, I tried and returned two iKon 2PB razors. They just didn't work for me. The first problem I encountered were that both did not operate smoothly when you try to screw the cap on with a blade in place. The handle seemed to bind when trying to screw the cap down. Even when trying very slowly and patiently to get the cap screwed on properly I could never get a good straight blade alignment. This caused the couple of shaves I did attempt to be very harsh and left my face raw. The razor was also a little heavy for me, which many people will like. That was my experience, I'm sure others have had better, but this razor is not my style. I will say that I got a good response back from the company on the returns and a prompt refund. I'll still be looking for my "Perfect Razor" Thanks
Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the razor, but glad to see that Ikon stands behind their product 100%, both in customer service and in replacements.
Glad to hear that despite the lack of satisfaction you had with the razors, Ikon backs their product. I have been lusting after an OSS; like to see one up-close first, no hurry on my part...
I agree. I've been eyeballing iKon, for a while. I'll eventually drop some coin on one, but not before trying it out. I have a Weber (fine shaver) and a Tradere OC, on the way. I had to get a replacement for my EJ D89 which my son dropped and broke (he is 10 and was "shaving" without a blade - good practice until they drop it, lol). Anyway, I really like stainless steel and iKon has a reputation for good customer service. It will probably be my next purchase.
Maybe you should consider a Weber. They cost much less than iKon are SS and have two different stye handles. The BullDog (short 3" and heavy 2.4 oz) and the Wave( 3" and 2.2 oz). Also the Classic same weight 2.4 oz but long 3 7/8" and slender). I'm waititng for the next batch(handles and heads) myself. I bought a Weber BullDog handle to use with my EJ89 shave head and I love it....
I am coming from a position of new-fer ignorance here; I don't suppose that there are any dealers that "demo" a high-end razor for a full price deposit or similar arrangement?
I'm not aware of any, but what a great idea. It would certainly make buying a $150.00+ razor a little easier, knowing that it works well, for you. I do know that there are some members that trade razors for temporary time frames, but some folks are a little squeamish about using someone else's personal items... Anyone?
Nothing a good sanitizing won't fix... They do it on their end, I do it on mine, before and after using it, and it's all good. They do surgery all the time with "...someone else's personal items", well sanitized, ya know? I'm guessing that probably most TSD members here are using razors recycled and sanitized from a prior user. All my current razors are "dead guy's stuff", not to be morbid or anything... Estate sales are becoming my go-to source for great razors to be had at a reasonable price. Many people not-in-the-know about the wet-shaving community are perfectly happy to get rid of dear-departed Dad's "old bathroom junk" for a song, seeing that it doesn't look like something that they might use. They've all cleaned up wonderfully and served me well. I would, however, like to get a stainless steel "trophy razor" or two, preferably new, to add to my rotation. It's just kinda hard to pull the trigger on a $150 +/- razor without a test drive, yeah?
Hey, OrdAvgGuy; you had "early Christmas" on that Tradere OC yet? Love to hear what you think of it; gonna start a fresh thread on it? Please post here or feel free to PM... Thanx! NCV
Hey NCV, I did get my early Christmas present. That Tradere is a beauty to behold. Unfortunately, it is currently sitting in my cabinet waiting for a trial run. I know this is going to sound a little goofy, but I have been growing my beard out all week for my Halloween costume (Wolverine from the X-Men, per my wife's request). I plan on getting a nice shave, this weekend after the party we are attending. I'll let you know how it goes. On a side note, I ordered the Tradere from Phil over at BullGoose... He just can't be beat for service. Always friendly, always quick, always professional. Have a great weekend.
Ord, have a great Halloween weekend... I think that a piece like the Tradere deserves it's own thread, complete with hi-def photos-- just sayin'-- braggin' rights, ya know?...
Stan at above the tie gives you a 30 day unconditional return policy Now that's a guy that belives in his product! I love my ATT razors
