Blue Birds and Wilkinson Swords have been the worst for me. Of course I use a $ 20 non adjustable Feather razor. Another razor may work fine with them. I only paid $ 1.76 for a 10 pack of the Wilkinsons at Walmart, so I did not lose much.
I forgot I hate sharks too. I still have the scar from when I tried one in my shavette, in fact I gave up on the shavette too. In my R41 they left especially bloody trail but thankfully no scars. I PIF the remainders. To bad the box looks cool.
Not thrilled with the Astras but that's really just a millage issue. There's a blade I tried called Vidyut. It's kinda rare but I think these might have actually broken through the millage barrier and gone all the way over to actual bad...
Wow, that's bizarre, Ryan; the Derby Extra is the blade made in heaven for my '46-'50 Tech. The Israeli Personna, so-so, the Crystals, no bueno. I did get some no-name blades from CVS that were made probably in Pakistan, where some kid with a pile of steel cans, some metal shears, a hammer, and a file was beating them flat on a piece of rusty railroad track...
Started with merkur . I didn't really like them especially for what they cost. I then moved on to astras they have been alright but I have been thinking about getting feathers. Are they worth the extra cost compared to the astras?
We (my husband & I) love Feathers and do think they are worth the cost. Bought in bulk, from WestCoastShaving.com , they cost 40 cents a blade, which I really do not consider excessive. But this is an individual thing. BTW, we really didn't care for Astras.
@Sara-S. thanks for the info on the feathers. When you work it out like that it is not expensive at all. Have you tried them in a de89? Did your husband talk you into using a de. I cannot for the life of me talk my wife into it......
I wasn't going to enter into this topic but.... I was just looking at my Merkur Moustache razor. Just sitting there. What a great idea if it weren't for the really, I mean really worthless blades that Merkur makes for it!! The only good thing you can say about them is that you never, never have to worry about cutting yourself with them!!
Have not encountered a bad blade yet. I have tried a few that was not so good, like the bluish Personna blade. But I suspect that it was just me using to much pressure
I have to say in my limited experience my least favorite blade is still a Derby but it is followed very closely by a Crystal. The Derby blades I tried most of a 5 pack and they were all nasty shaves for me but I tried. The Crystal I will admit that I only tried one blade for two days and a half before I set the package aside and changed for something different. And it was different, a Gillette black 7 o'clock, with my EJ 89L it made it worthwhile getting up this morning.
Merkurs are okay, just overpriced. Dorcos are one of the worst blades for me, but that is because they are so mild that my beard beats them up and steals their lunch money.'
Just tried some store brand blades from a local drug store. They wer 5 dollars for 5 blades. They have a "vydax" coating that DuPont makes. The wer not that good. But I was glad to find out that I can find blades locally if I am in a pinch.
Ask 99 people and you'll get 100 different answers to that one. Only your face can tell you if they're worth it or not.
