Hello, I'm new here, I actually never thought to look for a shaving forum, or that it might be a hobby. So a little background, twelve our so years ago I bought my first safety razor in a thrift store don't know what kind it was but it worked pretty darn well (3-4 years) until it started cutting on the edges of the blade so I abandoned it and went back to cartridge razors about a month ago I was at the supply house (I'm a cosmetologist) and they had a cheap safety razor so I picked it up. Now I wear a beard most of the time but shave my neck and cheeks workdays I find I change the blade about once a week, how long should a DE blade last? Also I picked up an adjustable Gillette over the weekend, any advice? TIA

Welcome to the group. I can usually get about 3-4 shaves out of a blade before I replace it, others get better mileage. What kind of adj did you manage to pick up?
Hi and welcome, id does depend on a few factors for blade longevity but as TURK said its 3-4 for me also. some people can get a lot more. maybe you will get more as you say your only shaving your neck area. but it will vary from blade to blade.
Hey Cosmic Charlie, Welcome to the Den! What he .... and he ... said, 3-4 shaves per blade, sounds about right, keeping in mind that this is based on a full shave with on average 2 passes each.
Hi! Welcome to the Den. Be sure to check out the November Newbie Give-Away for a chance to win some free stuff. Longevity of a blade, as has been said, will vary from person to person. Let your face tell you when it's time to pop in a new blade. When you start to feel tugging and pulling, then it's time. For adjustables, here's my recommendation... Shave 1 - set at 3, complete your shave, evaluate Shave 2 - set at 4, complete your shave, evaluate Shave 3 - set at 5, complete your shave... Shave 4 - set at 6... Keep adjusting up until you hit that "just one notch too far" setting, back it down, lock and leave it. Of course many will adjust during the shave - first pass wide open 9, then back it down for each pass after. Some start mild, say 3 or 4, then crank it up wild for that last pass. It's your shave. Enjoy it your way.
Welcome nice to have you. I say use the blade until it starts dragging and pulling hairs instead of cutting them...
Welcome! I use a Gillette Fatboy dialed at 3 for my face and 1 for my neck. Works great for my sensitive neck. I typically use a blade 2 - 3 times before swapping out (certainly true when I'm using Astras or Voskhods) and maybe 4 - 5 times if I'm using a more expensive blade, like a Polsilver or Gillette Black
Thanks for all the welcomes! I'm not sure what kind of Gillette it is but I'm guessing a slim will probably get it in the mail Friday or Saturday, the one I'm using is a of branded sold in beauty supply cheapo.
