If I remember correctly the Feather razor you have is some what aggressive...someone correct me if I'm wrong. But my vote for you would be a Edwin Jagger 89......very mild shaver and always gives me a great shave. I pop a Feather blade in it and its smooth sailing...but if I pop a Feather blade in a more aggressive razor like my Merkur 34C...my face will be slaughtered.

In fact man I have an extra mild shaver sitting around...its no EJ89 but it is a 1950s Gillette Super Speed. I will hook you up with it if you want....I never seem to get around to PIF anything and nows my chance to hook a fellow shaver up. Hopefully it'll help you find a better shave! Let me know if you want it...if so PM me your address and stuff and I will get it sent off to you this weekend. Its not in mint condition but it is indeed a very nice razor.....no pitting or anything....just needs a bit of cleaning up but it is a great shaver. I have 2 of em so one just sits under my sink. I will even toss in some different kinds of blades. Vintage razors are my favorite shavers so hopefully you would enjoy them too. Just let me know man!

Most owners seem to regard it as very mild, but efficient IF you can find the correct angle. There's the tricky part because the thing can be extremely finicky with each stroke. This is probably the primary reason so many drool over it but many buy one but sell it shortly after getting one.

Good to know...iv never even touched one myself...never had the cojones to chunk out that kinda dough for a safety razor when most my favorites I got for no more than $10 at antique malls lol.

Yo Shanester, welcome, and many great shaves to you....I agree with those that say, when your shave-chops come together your opinion of your current set-up will probably change...In the meantime....that Cobra is another beauty that I understand requires experiance to tame and so does the R41...

Personally I believe the easiest razor to make the transition to "Traditional Wet Shaving" is the Schick Injector....you hold it flat against your face and don't have to worry about blade angle...Very similar to the Cobra, but user friendly...The running joke about 'Injectors' is that they are too easy or you feel like you're cheating...:) But I believe this to be a good thing...

On the other hand if it must be a DE, then the suggestion of the Vintage Gillette Super Speed is perfect...not only was there a very generous offer made, but many consider the Super Speed to be the perfect DE for getting your 'Chops' together....

Good luck and let us know what you are thinking...

Hi mate, welcome to The Shave Den.
You might consider viewing some vids by Matic59. He got me hooked on DE shaving, which again made me end up here!

    Happy shavings!

Update...So I got myself an Edwin Jagger DE89 and you guys were all right! First day taking old girl out for a shave and she did me well. Cuts great and left me nice and smooth with 3 passes...not perfect but pretty damn close! lol Much easier to use than the feather ss. It came with Derby razors so thats what I used. Not sure if these razors are good or not but they seem to do ok. I also bought a sample pack as well with about 5-6 different brands to try so we shall see. Thanks again guys.

Glad it's working out better! I think too many people lately have started with the feather. As you can already tell it's just a very very picky razor. Not wasted money though, you can keep it around until down the road when you decide to try it again.
