So, on the days I shave, i use AOS Sandalwood Aftershave Balm. For me, this stuff is amazing. not only is the scent just right, but its ability to effectively moisturize and soothe my face is very cool. I am in search of some decent moisturizers that i could use on the days i don't shave; something not too greasy or thick. Any thoughts?
There are only two balms I currently use, Brut and L'Oreal for Men Comfort Max. They work for me, and I love the smell of Brut.
Any of the Trumper's Skin Foods. The price is high for a bottle but it lasts a really long time because you only use 3-4 drops. That would be my top pick, followed by TSD shave milk, which is slightly less moisturizing, but comes in a huge variety of scents and is significantly cheaper. You can also keep using your AOS aftershave balm. Just because you are not shaving doesn't mean you can't use it.
PlanofMan - you're right, I could wear the balm, but sometimes I splash on some cologne, and the scents would end up clashing. I know, I got problems!

Yes, you do have problems. Sandalwood is the base for most men's colognes, as rose is the base in most woman's fragrances. I was told to use a sandalwood body spray before I put on any cologne by an expert. This is his background. I found that every one of my colones and aftershaves worked in tandem with sandalwood, with the notable exception of my Trumper's Limes, and even that was not an offensive combination.
Not that easy. No joke, I am a scent hound; my nose is extremely sensitive. Even if those next to me can't detect clashing scents, I would. Another factor to consider is each individuals body chemistry. CREED - GREEN IRISH TWEED will smell one way on me, and different on someone else, and that difference can have varying degrees. Then the factor of note placement comes into play; Top, Middle, and Bottom, and each layer will contain an assortment of different scents. In my case, my favorite fragrance is ARMANI ACQUA DI GIO. Top Notes - Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin. Middle Notes - Coriander, MarineNote, Freesia, Cyclamenr. Base Notes - Cedar, Patchouli, Moss, Musk. This means that the scents between the sandalwood and the cologne will settle with each other after several hours, after the cologne's citrusness wore off. Either way, thank you for advice!
Naturally when I re-read my post, I left out the most important part. The reason for applying the sandalwood body spray is to form a barrier between your skin and the scent, thereby allowing the cologne or EdT to smell exactly the way the perfumer intended for it to smell, without any variables such as skin chemistry. For you, a cedarwood scented skin milk or body spray might be the best base for Aqua Di Gio. What I would recommend for you, based on what you've told me is this: Aqua di Gio type Skin Milk from TSD. Users claim that the AdG Type fragrance from the TSD store is the closest match to the real thing they've ever found.
Lately I have been shaving every other day. GFT limes skin food is my non shave day go to. I used half a sample bottle in three weeks. I use about two drops. Try a sample first. My sense of smell is a little dull but my wife's is not and she likes it.
Krampert's Finest Bay Rum. Best moisturizer I've ever used & it doesn't leave me oily, tacky, or shiny. www.krampertsfinest.com
Well, thank you all for your input. I will certainly be trying out the stuff recommended here, to find the right moisturizer.
Yep, Trumper Skin Food is fantastic and so efficient in terms of how long a bottle will last. Seconding this - it's probably my favourite shaving product period.
Men-u also do a great moisturiser that is primarily a 'moisturiser' while I tend to use Trumper's Skin Food as more of an after shave balm.
I used to use Skin Authority sunscreen moisturizer. It dries to a almost powder like finish which leaves your skin super soft and not greasy or shiny. But last time I went to buy it I couldn't drop the $45 dollars for it. Although it does last a super long time and the sunscreen works great in the Arizona sun! They do have a whole men's line that I haven't tried...
As one who lands on the economic/frugal side of moisturizers, you can buy a tube of Dermasil at a Dollar Tree if one is near you. If you don't mind the smell of Coco Butter, you can usually go to some discount store and buy a big container of it for not too much.
