I got my BBW and coticule and had no idea what I was missing, I am a general purist I love j-nats and use them whenever possible over synthetics but when the BBW and coticule arrived my knife sharpening and razor sharpening changed my life I am in love with those things I used them even on my cpm 154 knifes and it had that feel like a natural should and sharp as hades to could i take my knifes into the strastophere with 30k shaptons and Finn's on nano but why i am shaving hair not replacing skin and for my carbon and most of my stainless knifes its killer the feeling is like nothing I can describe and those who know me know i am not a virgin when it comes to sharpening. But I will tell I this if they ever make razors out of m390 microclean get ready for some sore arms it is the toughest new metal out their I just finished 10 knifes with it and the metal has to be taken above and beyond most stones to work. I know this is a razor forum so I won't talk about knifes but if you want the strongest steel avaliable and holds an edge like I have never seen that is the steel for you. But back to razors I finished mine with the coticule and stropped on kangaroo and it was one of the best shaves I ever had it cut hair not skin and before I had my razors so sharp it was like getting a facial every time I shaved. Live and learn I guess and you guys here are great I am thrilled to be a member. Peace and good blessings to all, jmbullman
Just because this is a shaving forum does not mean we are not interested in knives. Start up a knife thread in "The Chatterbox." I for one would be interested in learning more about m390 microclean from someone who has worked with it.
As with any natural stone, your guess is the same as anyone elses' really. Some people seem to think that they vary from 5-10k depending on slurry; I think they tend to be on the lower end of that scale and when you combine them with a coticule you get a great setup that will make very comfortable edges to shave with. Downside? You basically need to learn to master using slurry or you'll hate them every step of the way.
+ 1 on what Justin said about working with slurry. Using a coticule is how I learned to use slurry, that and watching gssixgun honing videos. Since I've been using slurry with all but my Chinese 12k(?) my edges have greatly improved.
I recently received my first coti and BBW as well. So, with using it, should/could I use the BBW for bevel setting? I haven't seen any videos on the BBW side of the stone. Everyone shows using the coti. What is the purpose of the BBW? Sorry to thread jack, just looking for info. I'll start my own thread on this subject when I get back to a computer. This is quite tedious on iPhone.
Take a peek over here: coticule.be. It's a website devoted solely to the coticule and the BBW. Much info to be found over there. Another informative site: timbertools.com/products/belgian-coticule.html
