Shower: Home made Peppermint/Patchuli/Lavender EO Soap Gillette Slim Adjustable (3) Derby Extra (2) Kent Bk4 Mama Bear's Awakenings Soap Taylor's St. James Lucky Tiger Mama Bear's Summer ASM Same shave setup as yesterday. I'd like to be able to get a good lather from the soap alone but it's to airy. The Taylor's fixes it right up. I realized today why the right side of my chin is such a problem If I look up to shave, it feels BBS because the whiskers retreat into the skin. When I look back down, they show up again. All in all a pretty good shave. I like the Derby

Anatomy of a shave (short story), 4,000th Post after-party--------> Had a late-evening shave today, with my new Feather AC-N Straight & Super Professional Blade.. :: Took a nice hot shower, but discontinued my prep-routine --> Guess I figured I would see how things went with just a hot shower, hot water, and brush/soap/cream lathering. Then I thought I would modify my pre-shave routine to suit the feather after taking a gauge of how things went. The shave lasted a good half-hour, but I took my time to enjoy the lather, spending at least half of that time smothering my face in the Kent BK$. (1) I began by Soaking the Kent in hot water as usual, and when I got out of the shower I replaced with fresh hot water and opened up my tub of TSD Bay Rum Shave Cream. Remember, slow motion. Took a deep breath of that pure Bay Rum goodness, to soothe the situation over. Then I collected some of the shave cream onto the brush and began lathering, adding water, lathering more.......directly on the face. Again, taking my time so as to enjoy the whole process. Gotta love the weekend shave (2) After allowing the TSD Bay Rum lather to sit on the face for a few minutes, all the while listening to Pink Floyd's "Pulse", I then rinsed most of it off with hot water, allowing a small amount of residual to remain. (3) I took the brush and half-rinsed the bay rum lather, leaving some, and began scrubbing my TSD Patchouli EO shave soap. The lather exploded into oblivion and not before long I had the perfect thing going. This was then applied to the face for a period of not less than 5 minutes. It was a thing of beauty, and at that time I knew it was time to shave. (4) Next I grabbed the Feather AC-N, which I had pre-loaded with a Super-Pro blade, and began a relaxed ritual of total whisker removal. Everything really fell into place. The strokes were effortless, noticeably longer strokes than I take with the DE. The angle, which seemed difficult to obtain with the folding version of the Feather straight......became self evident. Things went very well. (5) The path left behind by the Feather straight was a thing of beauty. The shave was a one pass....the whiskers were perfectly softened and were swept away with ease. I did learn that care must be taken, as the upper-lip area and chin were difficult for me. This will get better, and I will master it.......but I did open up some weepers in this area. One will become a scar (on the lower tip of chin). (6) After I was finished shaving, I splashed hot water to remove excess lather, then began splashing cold water repeatedly for several minutes. The weeper on the chin was dripping blood and I spent the next 10 minutes fumbling around like a fool, with blood running down my chin...looking for my styptic pencil. Nowhere to be found, probably buried under stacks upon stacks of shave creams and shave soaps. (7) Returning to the bathroom, I began nursing the wounds with massive amounts of aqua velva. Cold water, Aqua Velva, Cold water, Aqua Velva. Soon enough the gyser gave out and all was well. Finished with a cold water splash, then an application of Weleda Aftershave Balm. Finished. Despite the gash on the chin, which will most likely leave a scar......the shave was nothing short of incredible and I would call it a total success. My skin is smoother than ever and I got the ultimate shave we all look for. ::
