Hello! I am not new to wet shaving, I have done mostly all wet shave but just with inferior cheap disposable razors...I by chance stumbled upon this site and a couple specialty online stores while I was searching for a better quality shave and also a cheaper shave rather than the monthly/yearly cost of disposables. I decided on the Edwin Jagger DE89BA11 Safety Razor and received it for Christmas. I shaved for the first time with it last night, and let me tell you...that was the best shave I have ever had! Pretty sure that was the first time I had any blade actually cut...it was just awesome. Just wanted to say hello and I may not post much but will hang out from time to time and mostly read others posts.
Welcome to the shave den, excellent choice on the razor, perfect for starting out, as i'm sure you are aware there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum, and all the members are only too happy to help with any questions you might have. enjoy the journey!!!!!
Welcome to the Den! I shaved with a Gillette TracII for over 30 years and hated shaving. Do to the cost of cartridges I decided to try and cut the cost of shaving. First change was vintage Gillette SS DE, got my first good shave and didn't hate it. On a dare I tried a str8, that was almost 5 years ago and now that's all I shave with. Str8 razors are now my hobby and I actually enjoy shaving.
to TSD flyboy718.... Great razor choice I use one myself.. Your story sounds alot like mine. I spent 30+ years wet shaving 10-12 times a month with a Trac2 and HATING it!!! NOW I use a DE or SE shave everyday and LOVE it !!! I think you'll enjoy it around here....
Since you are new to the Double Edge world, here is the advice I received when I started with a DE and so I freely give it to new users. The most important things in shaving are, your skin and technique. All other things fall in line behind those two things and to support them. Since the skin is a given fixed item, the next major item is technique. It is called THE 30 DAY RULE. THE 30 DAY RULE is as follows: Find a razor, then a blade that will not cause issues with your skin (that may take a few different blades in a sampler pack to find a suitable choice or it maybe the first out of the gate) and select a soap or cream that is easy to generate good lather. Once you find those, and it may take a couple of weeks to find this combination, order a quantity of that blade enough for 30 days, and then spend 30 days using nothing else until you build up your technique. (Note that only one brand blade is used for 30 days after each blade in the sampler pack is tested to make the decision on the blade brand to use for 30 days.) The 30 day clock starts when you have the right blade for you. After 30 days, change one and only one variable and work for another week then change another after another week. At that point you should be able to make better decisions because your technique is now in place. This will help you to avoid buying too much gear and stuff too soon without having the technique down to enjoy it all. This really does work. Oh and one more thing ... Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
Welcome to TSD sir, I've never tried a DE or SE but I love wet shaving with my straights. I told myself I was switching to save money, maybe it'll balance out by the time I'm elderly haha. Thanks for sharing a bit of your story. ~J. Babcock
Welcome to TSD! Glad your enjoying it as much as we do. Brace your self here comes the AD tidal wave hahaha
Welcome man nice to have you here. I like shaving and my skin has really cleared up since going to DE.
