Mike, I've used the Kruidvat soap in the past and I find it to be a decent and honest performer. However, there's no comparison - the De Vergulde Hand soap is sooooooo much better! :)

Thank you Veli. Sometimes I am amazed at how these old razors are such good shavers.

Veli, Lyndon, I have a Valet Autostrop which my Grandpa used many, many years ago and I cannot believe how he used it so well. Myself, I would get cut badly all over every time I used it so I'm just keeping the razor as a cherished souvenir from him. I was his favorite of all the grandchildren. :)

Kool Monsoon SC :love055: :love055: :smiley freezing: :smiley freezing:
Svoboda AS Balsam :love055: :love055: :smiley freezing: :smiley freezing:

    JHL Cologne :love055: :love055: :love055: :love055:

I had a great "Bangladeshi Shave" today because this Kool Monsoon cream and the 7 AM blade are made in that country. The cream smells very lemony with a tropical and traditional note, it gives bombs of awesome lather, and it's quite cooling. The Svoboda balsam and Iced Lime aftershave felt delightful afterwards. ;) :D

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Tech Tuesday January 8, 2013
    [IMG]
Prep: Brush soaked in warm water, face washed with Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Anti-Blemish Cleanser, luke warm shower
Razor: Gillette Canadian Tech mounted to Matador Toro Mastif Corto Handle.
    Blade: Gillette Super Thin (3)
Brush: GDCarrington Custom Maple Apple Brush with Ace Shaving 22mm High Density Silvertip
Soap: Proraso Sandalwood and Shea Butter in Tub
    AS: Aqua Velva Musk
Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash of Aftershave

I had a reaction to the Proraso Red in the tub the last time I used it, but do you think that is going to stop me from trying again? No way, as I just love the scent too much. I went back to through my journals and the two common factors was a boar brush along with face lathering. Today I decided to bowl lather with a Silvertip, BINGO that worked, no irritation today at all from the Proraso Red!!!

The handle I paired today may look familiar but it is not. It is a handle from the new Matador Toro Mastif Coro from Razor Blades and More. It is not available on his site yet but should be in stock very soon. David is working very closely with the factory to get a better quality head than the other razors we see with the same handle design.

This is now my 3rd shave with the Thailand made Gillette Super Thin and it is still going strong. Another BBS today with no pulling, tugging or roughness. I am going to push it for a fourth shave tomorrow and see how it goes. I will definitely being buying these in bulk as they have ended up being one of my favorites.

    • Prep PSC
    • Tabac SS
    • Omega Pro 48 Boar Brush
    • Boker King Cutter Straight
    • Parker SR1 Shavette
    • Nivea "Extra Cool" (menthol crystals added)
    • Old Spice ASL
Well I got the hones out last night to see if I could produce a good edge. Actually, I only have two Naniwa stones; 8000K and 12,000K. I did at least 25 laps on both stones but I wasn't able to get a good edge. I was able to shave most of my cheeks and a little bit of my neck but I really had to pull hard on the razor to get it to go through the whiskers. Then I had to be careful not to accidentally scrape off too much skin. I didn't cut myself or get any nicks but wow, am I ever slow! I also gave the Parker Shavette a try. Although these "shavette" style razors are not exactly the same as a straight, I do find that they help me learn all of the hand positions and help develop muscle memory. Using the combination of the two I almost finished one pass and I did the other two passes with a DE. I am glad I chose the Old Spice today as it seems to be such a good match for the Tabac.

    Cheers, Lyndon

Tried the Perma Sharp Super blades this morning.....I had one days growth because I did not shave yesterday and the Perma had some trouble cutting through that growth but after that first initial pass it smoothed up pretty decent....not a favorite blade but none the less it gets the job done.

    Soap- Arko
Brush- Simpson Special 1 Pure Badger
    Blade- Perma Sharp Super (1)
Razor- Gillette Slim Adjustable (set on 3 for the first 2 passes and 5 on the last 2 passes)
    Aftershave- Pinaud Clubman Original
    Robert Becker Scuttle

5/8 Torrey, Full Hollow, Round Point
    Proraso PSC
    Homemade Patchouli SC
    Omega 31064 Boar
    Dickinson's Witch Hazel
    Nivea Replenishing ASB
    Brut Original Cologne

The Torrey delivered it's usually great shave this morning. The homemade SC is sort of a cross between Speick and Irisch Moos; nice scent, cushion, glide and lather performance. Trying to use up the last of the Witch Hazel and Brut to get to some Thayers WH (...and reload with a fresh bottle of the Brut. Yep, I'm stuck in the '60's - '70's! lol)

    Merkur 23c w/ Shark
    Cetaphil gentle cleanser
    Dickinson's WH
    cold water rinse
    Master Bay Rum

Two pass DFS+ pleasure! I'm blown away by how smooth the Shark blade was today. Not sure if the next one in the box will be the same, but ... this one is great! I'd written these blades off ... I may need to make sure I always have some on hand!

A very relaxing post health club work out shave. The Racer blade is smooth and non-irritating to my face, but lacks in the sharpness department. Maybe I've gotten too used to the Personna Med Preps!!! ;)
