I shaved off a chin strip beard this morning. I didn't even bother trimming it down. I just made a good lather and took the DE razor right to it like a hot knife cutting through butter. There is no way I could have cut through it using a cartridge razor! Love the double edge!!!! Happy New Year Shave Den friends!

 

Been a while since I've posted here. I do enjoy Menthol Mondays when they roll around, though.

They joys of Monday's Menthol and Merkur

You smell that? Do you smell that? Menthol, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of Menthol in the morning. You know, one time I had shaved, for twelve hours. When it was all over I felt my face. I didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' stubble. The smell, you know that Menthol smell, my whole face smelled like…victory.

Because of the frigid weather here in Montreal I decided on a somewhat less potent menthol set-up. The Lemon Ice soap from Mama Bear has awesome lather with a great lemony scent which is very refreshing, and enough menthol power to give a good chill, but it's not as heavy as the ISZ or Awakenings soaps. I think the coldest part of this set-up is the 444 balsam, and although I love the Booster Iced Lime aftershave - don't let the name fool you - it has NO menthol in it whatsoever.

I doubt that anyone here has ever heard of Aquabarba cream. It comes from Tunisia and has tons of rich, creamy lather and a very nice minty scent. The cooling effect is almost as strong as Palmolive Menthol so it's a great choice for a Menthol Monday Shave. The Diana Sport balsam and the Rubski-Dubski make the temperature feel like 20 below zero!

Although I just used it yesterday, I had to use the Mergress XL again today. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE this razor? Although I like to mix things up with my rotation, if I had to pick only ONE, this would be it. I am pretty sure this ha stopped my RAD (until the new line of German razors are released).

First use of the Ingram Lather Shave Cream, which is sort of a mixed bag for me. The latherability I would only rate a C+ at best, as it takes far too much product to get the right consistency. The scent reminds of me of Ivory soap, so clean but also institutional. The menthol level grows after applying the lather. At first I did not think it had much menthol and that I would need to add some menthol to it, but it ended up giving a nice cooling sensation. It is does not provide as much cushion or slickness that I would prefer, and although it is inexpensive, you can find much better quality creams in the same price point.

The shave itself was fantastic. The combo of the Gillette Super Thin blade and the Mergress was able to provide a BBS in three passes with minor touch up.

First time I used the Osage Rub and I wanted to experience the full effect, so I skipped the alum block and applied the Osage Rub directly after a cold water rinse and pat dry. Wow, it's a great way to wake up in the morning.

 

My first menthol Monday too. Just woke up and having a cup of coffee before shaving right now but here's my plan.

This makes Monday's worth looking forward too. I added so much menthol to the AS that even after washing my hands three times they are still tingling from the menthol chill. I cannot wait for the cold air to hit my face, that will be a wake up call.

Seems I finally overdose the bomb - it was almost painful for the face. But man, it was so FROSTY! So I think I still like that level of Menthol and will repeat the set up.

Very few artisan soaps appeal to me, but this Nanny's soap is one of them because the scent is lovely, the lather is a pleasure to work with, and it's a real face-freezer. It's made in England by Nanny's Silly Soaps. The combination of the 444 balsam and Barbon aftershave intensify the iciness beautifully and give great skincare. The YSL eau de toilette has always been a top favorite of mine, but it's not so easy to find these days.

 

I liked mine so well, I missed it yesterday so I had a Menthol Wednesday.

Now that I will be receiving another Menthol Mist tube I don't mind using the one I have a little more often. It's the best cream Godrej ever created. A nice scent with awesome lather, and the menthol feels like 20 below zero on your skin. The Diana Sport balsam feels like 30 below zero, and the Rubby Dubby feels about the same - maybe a bit less. (trust me, it's BRRRRRR cold and beautiful!)

The Megress paired with the Gillette Thin is a perfect razor/blade combination for me, 2 full passes and light buffing and my face is smooth as a waxing.
