    Well, since you asked.

Firstly I accept that it is not as nice as Achim's set (see here) but it is my first!

My first No. 51 Set that is :D

The blades are clearly wrong and the instructions have changed -

But it is clearly a No. 51 set -

And the instructions inside the lid are the same -

I love the conditions of sale too -

This only arrived today so I've not cleaned it up but I'm very pleased to have this uncommonly seen bit of history :D

That very well might be the most awesome thing I see today if I'm completely honest :)

    I love old stuff.

    Thanks all!

Like most of my acquisitions this is another ebay purchase - not much in the wild Down Under (except 'roos, 'crocs and drop bears!)

LOL - we would never do that here. If there are koalas around we always sleep with one eye open ....

Beautiful razor, congrats on the pickup.

Do you plan on using it or will this be a showpiece?

Thanks. I have other AJs so I may or may not use this - it is not NOS so I wouldn't not use it if you know what I mean.

The AJs are a great shaver - but I prefer the thicker handle and greater heft of the #16

    Interesting tidbit I noticed.

You can see on the box in the first picture that "13/-" is written - presumably the price of 13 shillings. On the price tag in Achim's set I linked to which he dates to 1949 it is shown as 7'6 which would be 7 shillings and sixpence.

So the cost of my set is nearly double that of Achim's - I wonder when that would date it too?

While I'm on a roll - interesting when you look at the graphics and the message it is promoting.

'High speed blade changing' - clearly the same preoccupation with speed that drove the move to carts.

But hang on, how often do you need to change blades? How much time would you REALLY save? 10 seconds once or twice a week?

The chicken and egg conundrum. Do we really want a faster shaving experience or do we think we want it because we are continually told of ways to get it?

It's no problem, just smear some Vegemite behind your ear before heading to bed.

I guess if you needed to change a blade to protect yourself from a 'Drop Bear' that saved 10 seconds could become a deal maker or breaker.....:shocked003:

But seriously...I don't have blade notches on the center bar of my Senator...and I can change blades just as fast with 'HER' as with any TTO razor I have. So I'm inclined to agree with your assumption .... But if speed in blade changing is of the utmost importance, Injectors :git: So maybe Injectors are better to pack in 'Drop Bear Country...
