EJ DE89 and VDH Premium kit. I need work on lathering, can't seem to get much in the bowl. I put some very hot water on top of the soap and soaked my brush in the bowl with hot water. Shave went very well, only did two pass WTG and XTG. Need to work in my technique on the left side of my face. The razor is very nice. Looking forward to giving it another go on wednesday. I also ordered and recd a tweezerman badger brush, but I'm not going to put that in the rotation until I get a little more into it.

Well......thanks. Using the Derby Extras that came with the razor. Since they are my first, all I know is that they are much better than my fusion. I got one small area on the lower portion of my neck on the right side, but only one small mark. I think I'll order some astras, feathers, and 7 oclocks, as they seem to be recommended. Any other recs are welcome. Secondly, I actually have the EJ DE89. Amazon (as much as I love) kind of misled me. For future newbies, the DE89BL is BLades, not to be confused with the DE89L or DE89LBL, which is Lines or Lines and BLades. No biggie, still got a good price and no issues with the grip last nite, plus it will make it rational and easier to buy another razor in the near future:)

Welcome to TSD! Good choice on the razor. Derby blades didn't agree with me at all but some people like them. The TSD store has a good sampler pack if you want to try some different blades and they're available from lots of other places too. You could also check your local stores. Wal-Mart carries Wilkinson Swords which are pretty solid performers for me. Some stores also carry Personna blades, usually marked as their store brand. I just tried one of those for the first time yesterday and I'm pretty impressed so far.

I've only stopped at Walgreens and they have their own branded blades, I'll have to stop and check out what Walmart has. Only problem with that is every :angry019: time I go there I find a new dent or scratch on my car, and it's really getting on my nerves. I found 3 scuff/dings right on the body line (read: harder to fix). My CSI skills tell me that some Walmartian was unloading their cart, and probably let it slam against my car as they pulled the items from the cart. :angry021:

OK, that's my rant! I'm going to get some samples after I got thru a Derby or two, so far I have nothing to complain (or compare) about. Pretty enjoyable shave, but I have to get one or 2 more under my belt before I venture into ATG, plus I think I'm going to need to get a good after-shave. I have an old bottle of Gillette Aftershave which did feel pretty good last nite. I think I may pick up some Neutrogena locally or ????? The funny part is, I figured I'd get a shave in after our (me and wifey) workout, so I didn't potentially go into work a bloody mess. I figured that she'd just go watch TV, but no, she wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and liked the results. So far it's good for everyone!

I hear you about Wal-Mart. Not sure what it is about that place but people just seem to be a little different there than anywhere else.

I understand Walgreens store brand are Dorco's. If they say made in Korea, that's what they are. If they say Made in USA on the blade, or if they say American Safety Razor (ASR) on the back they're Personnas. I haven't tried Dorco so can't say much about them. The Personnas seem good to me after only a couple shaves with them. I have to admit that the lather seems to make a bigger difference to me than the blade most of the time.

For after-shave, everyone here seems to recommend witch hazel. After trying it myself, I highly recommend it too.
