Prep: Brush soaked in hot water, hot shower.
Razor: Gillette Short Comb NEW mounted to iKon Bulldog Handle
    Blade: Chroma Diamant (4)
Brush: Vintage Stanley Home Products restored with TGN 22mm Fan High Density Finest Two-Band Badger Knot
    Cream: Erasmic Lather Shave Cream
ASB: Nivea for Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm (old formula)
    AS: Canoe
Post: Cold Water Rinse, double application of aftershave balm, after shave applied to back of neck, chest, behind ears, and hairline.

After the outstanding shave with the Matador Toro Mastif Corto open comb yesterday I thought another open comb deserved a go today. It may be physically impossible to get a bad shave from a Gillette NEW, if there is one open comb that everyone must own, in my opinion it would be the NEW.

I never experienced the old formula of the Erasmic, I know others say this new version is not nearly as good, but I personally love the scent. My only gripe with it is the small tube, I just wished that it was available in larger sizes.

I am still being careful with the alcohol based aftershaves on my face, but applied some Canoe behind my neck, on chest and at hair line.

    soak brush/Thater 4292/6,2 band,fan/DB Brush Scuttle
    hot shower
    Proraso PrePost Cream (new-green)
    TOBS Avocado SC
FaTip Chrome Grande head on UFO Godzilla handle"Gojira"/Gillette 7 O'Clock Green (Russia) (2)
    cool water rinse

    SCS Avocado Oil Aftershave Balm

Very smooth shave today, so far I'm liking the Russian Greens,I still have to try the Indian version, which I hear may be a lil better blade.Actually I don't know if it's the blade or the handle that made it a smooth one.

    • Palmolive Menthol SC
    • Lijun Chrome Finest Pure Badger Brush
    • Cadet Razor
    • Lord Blade (1)
    • Nivea Sensitive "Turbo Cooler" (with added menthol crystals)
    • Barbon ASL
Had a bit of a tough time with the Lord blade today. It felt like I was scraping my whiskers instead of cutting them. I tell you, I will be glad after I have sorted through all my blades and weeded out the poor ones! Palmolive is a nice cream with a good cooling effect but I am not sure I like the scent all that much. Both the Gillette Menthol cream and the LEA cream seem to be better to me. The new Lijun brush worked pretty well but it was a bit on the stiff side. Got a big chill going with the Nivea Sensitive and the Barbon ASL. Overall a DFS+ result but it wasn't exactly easy or comfortable.

    Cheers, Lyndon

    Humpday ...

I decided to mix it up a a bit and used my Dovo str8 for the first time. Following the suggestions on the interwebz I only made a couple of swipes, just my cheeks. I didn't do the recommended sideburn area as I wear mine down to my jawline :) it was awkward, but i didn't cut myself :)

    soap - Proraso Green

Coffee: Kirkland with a bit of brown sugar and some French vanilla creamer
Prep: wash with 365 French Milled Glycerin Soap, un scented
Per-shave: American Crew per shave oil
Brush: Merkur (? Came with Merkur gift set) pure badger
Soap: Classic large cake, vanilla scented (new)
    Razor: Merkur 180
    Blades: Feather hi-stainless, platinum coated
    Post shave: witch hazel
Inspection: kiss from the wifey and cheek rub with the three-month-old (neither cried)

This is my first shave post the initial 30-day training time. First item changed was from Colonel Conk shave soap... No question the Classic brand is far superior in performance. I'm going to keep testing for a week, but it looks like the Colonel will be retired. He served valiantly in my training, but it's time for something better.

Congrats on making it through your trial period. Now that you have the technique down it looks like you are starting to try some new and different products. The Classic Shaving Soaps are excellent performers and come in many great scents. There are also some great Shaving Creams and After Shave lotions and Colognes awaiting your attention as well. The world of wet shaving offers countless options to make your shaving experience ever more enjoyable. Good luck in your search for the perfect shave, it will be a pleasant and rewarding journey! :happy088:

I'm really looking forward to starting to work through a blade sampler next week.

Enjoying the new hobby and the loss of the begrudging morning shave.

    Thanks for the well-wishes!

I had me a shave, and it was good.

Second shave with the Lord blade, and it performed more or less the same as last time. Pretty decent, not as sharp as I like. But sharp and smooth enough for a close shave. Closer than last time, but I made an extra effort this time.

I used the Mama Bear Aromatic Pipe Tobacco with Cherry and Vanilla flavoured soap. I have only used this soap a few times before, and absolutely detest the smell of it. Or used to anyway. This time it was not that bad. Maybe I am growing up?
But it was pleasant enough for me to properly enjoy my shave, at least until it started to burn. Just a slight tingling, and I did not notice it before my good friend Placebo reminded me of this reaction as a not too uncommon side effect of MB soaps.

It is a shame this happened, because now it will go into the never to be used again pile :(

Nice shave! The brush still drops hairs, so will be retired soon (I have a spare for about 6 months for now, but still cannot say goodbye to my old Vie-Long). Long honing session last weekend brought that Rebell into proper sharpness, and feels really soft when shave. I need more honing practice though, as I have 2 more straight begging for a nice sharpening.
