i am considering buying proraso pre shave cream and shave cream.. alot of reviews online say they work great but the smell of the eucylyptus and menthol is overbearing.. is this true?

That would be a matter of opinion but I don't think that the smell is strong at all.

Different people have different taste but it could stand to be a lot stronger before it began to bother me in the slightest. If anything I'd say it isn't strong enough so you shouldn't have a problem unless you're just very sensitive.

I've used the Proraso preshave and I didn't find the smell over bearing. I've also used Jack Black and for me neither scent was overbearing, however again I.M.O. neither performed any better or worse than the preshave I currently use "Corn Huskers Lotion"...:) In fact for the price difference between CHL($3 for 7oz and the other two($13 for 3oz) the CHL may perform just a "tiny bit" better than the other two (Keep in mind that I am CHEAP)....:happy097:

Proraso and by extension, C.O. Bigelow are the only two mentholated products I can see myself using on a semi-regular basis, precisely because the menthol is not overpowering. During the late spring and summer I'll use Tet-A-Tet and Osage Rub from time to time, but I wouldn't say I'm a menthol user.

I've used a few different creams and Proraso is one of the least strongly scented of the ones I've tried. The menthol smell doesn't linger long and what is left doesn't clash with anything.

The pre shave is stronger than the shave cream and soap. But then I love Proraso. Wife says the pre shave smells like Noxzema.

It depends on how much you like the smell of eucalyptus. Personally, I don't like it at all - so yes, I think it's overbearing.

I can not comment on the eucalyptus, but i have read a few places that the Prorasso sandalwood is overpowering. It is far from it :)

It's strong but, to me, overpowering would mean that it lingers after the shave messing with your aftershave scent. It doesn't do that.

It smelled good to me. But I also broke out from using it. Be advised this is the old formulation I am talking about. The only way for you to know is if you try it.

Yeah, I found it to overbearing. I don't care for eucalyptus at all.

I love them all except the white. This one I really don't like the smell of. But it performs! The Blue is nice as well. I hope they make it into a soap as well.
